History / Biographical
J. D. McDonald was a member of the Rossland Historical Museum Association of Rossland, B.C., who researched the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Scope & Content
Fonds consists of extensive interview with Norman H. Brewster, pioneer of ski mountaineering in the Selkirk and Rocky Mountains. Brewster came to Field, British Columbia in 1929, and thereafter was a Canadian Pacific Railway employee at Field and Glacier, B.C. for many years. Accounts of his ski mountaineering trips and expeditions, most with mountaineer A. A. McCoubrey, appear in the Canadian Alpine Journal. Brewster was a member of the Alpine Club of Canada, 1939-1953. Interviews pertain to expeditions, trips and ski camps in the Rockies and Selkirks, including: the Battle Range, 1946-1947; Swiss Guides Lily Col ski trip; first Alpine Ski Camp at Lake O'Hara; numerous ski trips, including Mount Uto, Mount Terminal, Asulkan Valley, Mount Sir Donald; Yoho ski mountaineering and ski camps; Little Yoho Ski Camp; Yoho Glacier; Freshfield Snowfield. Brewster discusses events, landscape, mountaineers, guides, techniques.

History / Biographical
Bruce Patterson, b.1949, was a journalist, writer and photographer at Calgary and Claresholm, Alberta, Canada. Patterson reported for the Calgary Herald for fifteen years, four of those years as Banff Bureau Chief. He accompanied the 1982 Canadian Mount Everest Expedition as a support team member and covered the expedition for Southam News. Bruce Patterson is the author of "Canadians on Everest" (Calgary, Alberta: Detselig Enterprises, 1990).
Scope & Content
Audio tapes recorded to assist with preparation of newspaper reports and eventually used to prepare "Canadians on Everest." Transmissions included those communications exchanged between climbers and base camp and broadcasts monitored on another radio from Kathmandu transmissions, August to October 1982. Recordings were made on a small Hitachi recorder. Accompanied by notes.

History / Biographical
The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is Canada's national film producer and distributor. The NFB, previously the National Film Commission, was established in 1939 and is a Government of Canada agency in the Canadian Heritage Department. The NFB's mandate has undergone numerous revisions since it's creation, but continues to foster Canadian production, distribution and promotion of socially relevant and innovative audiovisual works.
Scope & Content
Fonds consists of Andy Russell "Grizzly Country" voice over (sound track), film-to-tape transfer and interviews/conversations, 1989. The film-to-tape transfer is on 2 - 1" videotapes, colour, silent; corresponding rough narration for film is on 2 - 16mm full-coat-reels, 5 - 1/4" audiotapes, 15 i.p.s. and 1 - 1/4" audiotape copy, 7 i.p.s; also included is 1 - 3/4" UMatic video "Grizzly Country Part 1". Audio content includes additional material, Andy Russell in conversation and telling stories.
These recordings were made after a session of filming for an NFB series on water. Andy Russell's "Grizzly Country" (silent) was screened and Russell's commentary was recorded. This session, and accompanying interviews/conversations were not part of an official NFB project and were not edited or published.
