- David McDougall, son of George Millward McDougall and Elizabeth Chantler McDougall, was born on May 14, 1845 in Owen Sound, Ontario. David had four siblings: John, Eliza, Lubby, and Nellie. David married Annie McKenzie in 1871 in Manitoba. Together, they had six children, including their daughter named Georgina (Georgie) Elizabeth McDougall (1872-1965). Georgina was the wife of Norman Luxton and an active member in Banff and the mother of Eleanor Georgina Luxton (1908-1995). David was an early pioneer of Calgary and Banff, who helped build both community life and their economies. While David’s father and brother were both members of the clergy and did missionary work in Morley, Alberta, David become a successful businessman. He established a general merchant store in Morley where he was a dealer in cattle, horses, furs, and curios. In addition to managing his own business block in Calgary, David also owned properties in Edmonton and Calgary. In Banff, David and Annie owned the Mount Royal Hotel for six years until they sold it to Jim Brewster in August 14, 1913. David died in December 6, 1927 and Annie died in 1939.

Series 1 consists of business related correspondence to various companies, individuals, and two branches of the Canadian Government. Government correspondence pertains to taxes and by-laws for McDougall’s properties. Series 2 contains invoices, receipts, cheques, and bank statements pertaining to McDougall’s business and properties. Series 3 contains personal letters and legal documents. Materials includes handwritten letters, property transactions and proof of ownership on properties. Series 4 contains cheque books, Dominion Travellers’ Hotel Guide, event program featuring Commissioner Coombs and “Safety First Guarantee” slip. Series 5 contains blueprints of Mount Royal Hotel and McDougall business block, Calgary 1911. The last series consist of a painting of George Noble photograph of Banff Ave, 1929.

- The Wardle family was comprised of husband and wife, James Morey Wardle (June 26,1888 - May 18,1971) and Maud Leette (Roney) Wardle (May 24,1889 - December 1,1969), and their one child, Dorothy Hope Wardle (May 23,1919 - July 20,2003). James Wardle, born in Chiliwack, British Columbia, was a civil engineer and public servant. He was the Superintendent of Banff National Park from 1918-1921, Chief Engineer for Parks Canada from 1921-1935, and Deputy Minister of the Interior from 1935-1936. He is primarily known as a highway design engineer, particularly for building the Banff-Windermere, Banff-Lake Louise, and Banff-Jasper highways. He was a councillor for the Municipality of Rockcliffe Park in Ontario and he was the President of the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies in Banff from 1925-1929. Mount Wardle in Vermillion was named after him in 1921. James married Leette on November 4, 1913, with whom he had one child, Dorothy. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Dorothy (also known as Dot and Dorie) grew up in Banff, Alberta and Ottawa, Ontario, due to her father's position with the federal government. She was educated at the Mountain School in Banff and at the Elmwood School in Ottawa. All three family members were graduates of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. James graduated in 1912 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Leette graduated with a Bachelor's degree, and in 1942, Dorothy also earned a Bachelor's degree. Dorothy was prominent in student life and active in athletics. In 1941, Dorothy became the first woman elected as President of the Alma Mater Society and during her academic career, Dorothy was a member of the Levana Intercollegiate Debative, University Centenary Committee, and Queen’s War Aid Commission. Dorothy spent her career as a freelance writer however, upon graduation she served as the first Secretary-In-Charge of Records at Carleton College (now Carleton University) from 1942-1944 in Ottawa and in the mid-1950s worked as a secretary for the Glenbow Foundation in Calgary. Dorothy pursued a lifelong interest in traveling, art, and antiques. Although she was fiercely proud and protective of Banff and the Park, and remained a volunteer and patron of the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies, Dorothy eventually settled in Sidney, British Columbia and shared an apartment with Sheila Iris Ritchie, with whom Dorothy travelled extensively. After her death in 2003, Dorothy, "Dorie," was laid to rest alongside her parents in the Old Banff Cemetery.

- Dorothy V. Whyte, b.1893, was a Canadian Pacific Railway employee at Banff, Alberta, Canada, until 1939. Whyte came to Banff from the Yukon and was first employed by the Banff Springs Hotel in 1920. She worked as an Information Clerk and later Special Representative for the Canadian Pacific Railway until 1939. She worked in Vancouver until 1963, returning to Banff where she became involved in local affairs before returning to West Vancouver in 1969. While living at the coast, Whyte frequently visited the Mount Assiniboine area and maintained close ties with Banff. Dorothy Whyte is not related to the White/Whyte family of Banff.

- Edward Feuz Jr., 1884-1981, was a Canadian Pacific Railway mountain guide at Lake Louise, Alberta and Glacier and Golden, British Columbia, Canada. Feuz was the son of one of the first Swiss Guides brought to Canada by the Canadian Pacific Railway. He climbed at Field and Glacier House in 1903 with his father and guided during summers from 1905 to 1912, settling that year in the Edelweiss Village at Golden, British Columbia. Until his retirement in the 1950s, he accompanied the finest climbers and was involved in over seventy first ascents of peaks over 3048 metres.

- Photographs pertain mainly to mountaineering trips and climbs, mainly led by Edward Feuz Jr. in the Rocky and Selkirk Mountains, and includes many first ascents. Many photographs were taken by clients who sent copies to Feuz. Photographs also pertain to clients, associates and friends, Lake Louise Chalet and Chateau Lake Louise, Lake Louise area, Feuz homes at Edelweiss and Golden, and scenic views in the Rocky and Selkirk Mountains. - Frederick Archibald Brewster, 1883-1969, was an outfitter and guide at Jasper, Alberta, Canada. Brewster was born in Kildonan, Manitoba and in 1888 moved with his family to Banff, where he received his education. He subsequently attended St. John's College, Winnipeg, Manitoba and Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, obtaining a B.Sc. in Mining Engineering. Brewster worked briefly as a prospector and in 1910 embarked upon a long career as an outfitter and guide, first with Brewster and Moore. He established operations in Jasper in 1912 and was responsible for important parties, including those of Samuel Prescott Fay and the United States Biological Survey. Brewster served with distinction in the First World War and was involved with mountain warfare training of the Lovat Scouts in the Second World War. He supplemented his outfitting business with a series of camps which doubled as ski lodges: Fred Brewster's Rocky Mountain Camps, and boat concessions.

Previously he worked on the construction of the Banff Springs Hotel and operated a hotel in Canmore. At the Cave and Basin, Galletly conducted tours and became known for his Scottish humor. Other family members included wife Ethel, daughters Viva and Ethel (Fulscher), son-in-law Fred Fulscher, and grandchildren Ronald and Adelina Fulcher.

Helen Isabel (Isobella) Stuart, 1899-2000, came to Banff from Scotland in 1911? with her parents, David Stuart, 1863-1919, and Isobella Stuart, 1872-1945, and sister Caroline "Carrie" (Crandell). The family resided at 119 Beaver Street, where Helen lived until 1995. Helen worked at the Banff Post Office, also at the Sign of the Goat and the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. George Shandruk, 1914-1993, was born at Bankhead, Alberta and raised at Canmore, Alberta. He worked for many years as a fishing guide. Helen and George married in 1948.

- Helen Louise (Fulmer) Wells, 1893-1980, was a long-time resident of Banff, Alberta, Canada. She was the daughter of pioneer Banff residents Minnie Christina Fulmer, 1868-1962, and Walter P. Fulmer, 1863-1948. The family also included another daughter, Alice G. Fulmer, 1896-1989. The Fulmers were very active in local life and recreation and made numerous trips in the Canadian Rockies. In 1927, Helen Fulmer married Fred Wells, 1873-1975. The couple lived in Banff until the death of Fred Wells in 1975 at which time Helen Wells retired to Edmonton. Helen Wells was particularly interested in the history and Banff and area.

- Hermann Hagedorn was an American writer who was known for his biographical works, particularly on Theodore Roosevelt, as well as poetry and novels. Late in life, Hagedorn became interested in Moral Rearmament. During a visit to the movement's headquarters on Mackinac Island, Michigan in 1958, he met George McLean (Chief Walking Buffalo of the Stoney Indians), an active proponent and traveller on behalf of Moral Rearmament. Intrigued by McLean's character and philosophy, Hagedorn wrote articles as well as drafts of a biography tentatively titled "A Chief in Two Worlds," but died before the work could be completed.

- Rev. Canon Hollingworth Tully Montgomery, 1885-1965, was an Anglican minister at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Montgomery was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick and educated in Atlantic Canada and England. He succeeded his father, Canon Henry Montgomery, as rector of St. George's in the Pines Anglican Church in Banff in 1924, a position which he held until his retirement in 1955. In 1939, he conducted a service for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth during the royal visit to Banff. Montgomery was married to Mary Ruth Montgomery and had two children.

- J. Monroe "Roy" Thorington, 1894-1989, was an ophthalmologist, mountaineer and mountain historian at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Thorington was a pre-eminent climber and explorer in the Canadian Rockies starting in 1922. He studied the Freshfield and Lyell Glaciers for 22 years and explored and mapped the Purcell Range, British Columbia. Thorington wrote approximately 300 publications on mountaineering, mountain history and the Canadian Rockies. He was active in numerous organizations, particularly the American Alpine Club.

He attended Queens University and moved to California with his parents. Brewster worked as an engineer and accountant in Redlands, California. During the First World War, Brewster served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force.

- John (Jack) Green Mitchell was a taxidermist at Calgary and Banff, Alberta, Canada. Mitchell prepared specimens for Norman K. Luxton in Banff, and for MacKay and Dippie in Calgary and Banff. During the 1930s, Mitchell worked at the Government Museum in Banff and assumed the curator's duties there following the retirement of Norman Sanson.
