A carabiner with two pitons hanging from it:a) a D-ring carbiner (10.3x5.0cm wide) made out of aluminum alloy; it has a spring lock mechanism with a safety bar in the gate. On one side it has “CHOUINARD” in raised upright block letters, followed by “H G” horizontally. The opposite side has “H” horizontally, “820” “G” horizontally “P” within a circle “ALCOA” followed by Chouinard’s diamond logo and “775”. This carabiner is light, strong and uncomplicated.(b) a hand-forged horizontal piton (8.8x2.60cm wide 3.0cm high) with a flat blade and raised side ‘handle’, viewer’s left, with a round hole. On the handle there is hand engraved “C” and what could be “m e”. This may have been an early Yvon Chouinard when he was making pitons in a garage. There is also “H G” below that.(c) a hand-forged horizontal piton (8.0x3.2cm wide 3.5 high) with a flat, thin, sharp blade and raised side ‘handle’, viewer’s right, with a round hole. Made of of Chrome-moly steel. There is stamp, Yvon Chouinard’s logo, a diamond with a “C” in the centre and “U.S.A” underneath.

ALLAIN 1600 Kg” in raised block lettering,“G”, on opposite side in raised lettering, on the other “BREVETTE S G D G”.(b) a metal piton (14.5x3.3cm wide) with the blade, instead of being flat, is positioned slightly sideways; engraved in script on the ‘handle’ portion “Charlet Moser” in block letters “CHAMONIX” . There is a white shop label glued on one side of the blade, in blue lettering “3 7 Premier Cycle & Sports 110 F”.(c) a trowel-shaped vertical piton (11.5x3.0cm), thin flat blade and high raised ‘handle’. This type of knife or blade was very popular in the Rockies. Commonly called the ‘Ace of Spades’. Raised “0” on the blade and “R. CASSIN” on viewer’s right and “ITALY” on the other. an “0” on the top part of the blade. A pair of well-used, green, lace-up gaiters made out of lightweight, waterproof, canvas material. An ankle-to-knee gaiter, one piece of material sewn together, six brass-coloured grommets on one side, six silver-coloured metal hooks with individual leather backing, on the other side, with another two grommets at the top, and a braided heavy-duty nylon lace for tightening and securing the gaiter to the calf. One gaiter has blue, waterproof patches sewn around both top grommets with green thread, also has one blue patch sewn with green thread on the outside and one on the inside; the manufacturer’s “Recreational Equipment INC. 1525 11th Avenue Seattle, Wash. 98122” label is secured on one side only. The other gaiter has only one blue patch on the top, one dislodged and bent grommet hanging on the nylon lace, the manufacturer’s “Recreational Equipment INC. 1525 11th Avenue Seattle, Wash. 98122” label is secure.
