Description
A writing desk that features a curved and inlaid centre portion which folds back to expose four small drawers and open compartments above a pull-out writing/working surface. The desk is supported by two richly carved legs depicting acanthus leaves, terminating in brass casters. It’s flanked by a pair of brass candle holders. Below the working surface are a pair of fielded flamed mahogany doors with brass accents which enclose a storage area. The upper portion features a bookcase with a pair of glazed doors with brass accents. This mahogany secretary features numerous decorative elements including gilt mounts, brass ornamentations, detailed carvings, flamed mahogany panels and an overall exhibition of superior craftsmanship.

Small wooden Japanese box of curly grained wood with drawers in front and trap door on top. Highly varnished finish over golden brown wood with watery grain similar to bird's eye maple on front of drawers. Large drawer across bottom, slightly shallower drawer in middle, and half drawer above on right side. Bottom drawer has loop pull, others have small button pulls with backing plates in shape of five cherry blossoms petalled flowers. All hardware enamelled reddish brown over the metal. Top hinged at middle and left hand side opens and folds flat over other side with square frame at middle holding red fabric pin cushion, shallow well inside. Interior of drawers and well painted with black lacquer enamel, wood of drawers splitting and shrinking leaving cracks and gaps, especially at joints, fronts of drawers warped and bowed. Marks: carved into base, a symbol which looks like unconnected "K" (SU)?

Two light weight wood stacking chests with two drawers each. Chests are fastened together by a rectangular metal latch (23 x 8) on each side which slides up to hook onto two metal prongs placed at the bottom of the chest above. Each corner is reinforced by a metal covering. Oval shaped brown metal plates (12.5 cm. long with straight length-wise sides) decorate the bottom front of each chest. Each drawer has a lock placed in the center of a 10.5 cm. brown metal disc with silver metal rim and center. Discs extend over upper top edge of drawers by about 3 cm., two shiny brown metal handles on each drawer. Each of the handles is fastened to inside of drawer by a wing-type (or butterfly) fastener rather than screws.
