History / Biographical
Ronald Leslie Duke, 1912-1978, was a professional photographer at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Duke was educated at Calgary, Banff and the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. After wartime service with the National Film Board of Canada, Ron Duke returned to Banff, where he worked in the photography business for the next thirty years. Here he formed a link in a business lineage of photographers, including George Noble, and was for a time an employee of Noble's corporate successors. After 1958, Duke worked closely with the Banff School of Fine Arts, photographing productions and providing documentary services. After sustaining considerable damage in a fire which destroyed Banff's Mount Royal Hotel in 1967, Ron Duke's business resumed and, in partnership with George Baracos, continued until retirement in 1975.

Includes family, personal and school portraits, weddings, conventions and passport photographs; Banff School of Fine Arts classes, activities, productions, business and convention programs; photographs of government and private construction, commercial and industrial projects, Banff National Park; Banff community life, including Banff Winter Carnival, sports and recreation, Banff High School, Banff activities, places and events; personal and occupational photographs arising from Duke's interest in aeronautics, work with the Canadian Army, World War II, and involvement in the oil industry, 1930s; scenic and landscape photographs. Most pertain to Banff National Park; also Vancouver, British Columbia; Seattle, United States; Turner Valley, Alberta and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
Textual records include job registers, 2 v.; samples of works orders, price lists, letters, equipment lists, invoices, receipts and technical information, mainly pertaining to business, some personal items; brochures, publications and postcards containing credited or attributed Ron Duke photographs.

History / Biographical
William E. Round (Bill Round Sr.), formally known as William John? Eley-Round, 1883-1967, was a musician and journalist at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Round came to Banff before 1918, where he established and operated the Banff Academy of Music, 1920-1958, served as a CPR press representative and was Banff correspondent for the Albertan newspaper of Calgary from 1930-1965. Bill Round Sr. was married to Elsie (Squair) Round, formally Espeth Eley-Round, 1891-1965. The Rounds raised two children, Doreen and Bill Jr., and two grandchildren, Doreen and Eileen Wickens. F. W. E. Round (Bill Round Jr.), formally Francis William Eley-Round, 1918-1978, was a photographer and film-maker at Banff, Alberta and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Textual records consists of Bill Round Sr. literary papers, ca.1925-1967; personal papers, 1922-1967; and other papers, 1887-1966. Material is mainly research materials, manuscripts and correspondence resulting from Round's literary career. Content concerns human and natural history of the Rockies, including: Banff tourist information, Canadian Pacific Railway construction and surveys, crime, Norman Luxton, William McCardell, A. B. Rogers, A. L. Rogers, George Simpson and Tom Wilson.

Sam Ward, 1884-1973, was a builder and finishing carpenter at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Ward and Louisa Maud "Cis" Ward, 1884-1970, came to Banff in 1912. Sam Ward was also known for music hall recitations. He later lived at Victoria, British Columbia

History / Biographical
Bruce Fraser, b.1932, mountaineer and draftsman at Chevron Oil Co., Calgary, Alberta joined the Alpine Club of Canada in 1953. Commencing in 1957, Fraser attended the ACC General Mountaineering Camps as an invited (free) amateur guide; managed 3 early ski camps - Rogers Pass, Yoho, and Tonquin and attended the first of the family camps.

Fonds consists of Bruce Fraser's 35mm colour transparencies of the Alpine Club of Canada General Mountaineering Camps, 1954-1988 as well as some photographs of private climbs.
