- Description
- Ink set contained in a round top, trunk shaped container which sits on four, corner ball feet. Rounded top has round knob and is hinged for opening. Either end of container has relief lion's head with rotating ring through jaw. Bottom of box scratched "#251 MT ac", also stamped lion profile hallmark and "7". Interior of box is two chambers divided by flat sterling bar. In either chamber sits a bevelled, square sided glass. Each container has circular, ridged top with 1.0 cm. hole in centre. One of sterling tops is anchored permanently to glass well and has white powder residue inside it, other top is removable and is presumably for holding ink. Card inside box says "Old Sheffield Ink Box made in London. Circa 1810-1815."

- (a) trilobite is quite nice, it is on a rock slab 12.4 x 10.8 cm, the trilobite measuring 9.3x4.7 cm, part of the tail is missing.(b) ammonite (9.5x8.7 cm) is actually a shape of an ammonite depressed in a large circular slab of rock measuring 27.0 dia and 2.2 thick.

There is also two partial imprints on the back;(l) a piece of slate 1.2 cm high x 5.0x11.2 cm wide, with about one third of an imprint of a trilobite (3.2x4.5 cm wide);(m) a piece of slate .08cm high x10.3.x7.0 cm wide, with an almost whole imprint of a trilobite (3.2x.9.5x7.2 cm wide);(n) a small (0.80cm high) piece of slate 5.5x7.5 cm wide, with a partial imprint of a trilobite (4.0x5.8 cm wide);(o) a very small (0.80cm) high piece of slate 5.3x2.8 cm wide, with a partial, but very clear, imprint of a trilobite (4.5x2.7 cm wide);(p) a piece of slate 9.2x8.5 cm wide, with a few very small (almost indiscernible) traces of trilobite;(q) a piece of slate 9.5x12.8 cm wide, with a long, but very narrow, trace of the side of a trilobite;(r) a piece of slate that doesn’t seem to have anything distinguishable although it is part of a fossil;(s) a small (0.70cm high) piece of slate 3.7x3.5 cm wide, with a partial imprint of a trilobite (1.9x3.5 cm wide).
