Description
Two Parks Canada Mountain Guide badges, one (a) from 1978-79, the other (b) from 1979-80. The badges are similar in that they are the same size and shape, rectangular with rounded corners, plastic coated fronts and metal backs with a horizontal pin set, safety-pin type of clasp with a u-type closure for the pin. Instead of being soldered to the back, the pin is inserted through and under the backing through two holes.(a) is navy blue (lettering, imaging and numbers) on white background, Parks Canada logo of left bar of Canadian flag and maple leaf in lhc, “Parks Canada” in the middle, “Parcs Canada” rhc. The following words, letters in quotes are directly below each other and centred: “MOUNTAIN” with “GUIDE” in bold underneath, then “DE MONTAGNE”, then number “275”, followed by “1978-79”. “MADE IN CANADA” and “FAIT AU CANADA” have been folded so that they appear on the side.(b) is forest green (lettering, imaging and numbers) on white background, Parks Canada logo of left bar of Canadian flag and maple leaf in top left “Parks Canada” in the middle, “Parcs Canada” on the right; these are top centred on the badge. The following words, letters in quotes are directly below each other and centred: “GUIDE” in bold then in parenthesis “MOUNTAIN - MONTAGNE”, then number “233”, followed by “1979-80”. “Made in Canada” and “Fait au Canada” have been folded so that they appear on the side.

Description
A oblong plastic case with an opening to insert the name tag. The plastic case has an extension on the centre top where a metal swivel rivet is attached to a spring snap for clipping onto clothing. The front piece has the letter “E” inside a diamond shape and the letters “I,M,L” inside individual boxes above the rivet. The back piece has four lines etched on the top and “MADE” on one side and “ITALY” on the other. On the inserted paper name tag is the UIAGM logo; a stylized mountain on the top-third of a segmented globe on a blue background, Above the circle are the letters “UIAGM” and below “IVBV”.The outer ring of the circular logo has these words printed on it “GUIDE DE MONTAGNES GUIDA BERGFUHRER”, in the lhc. A chain of red enamel spots encircles the central portion of the pin, two sharp bent prongs and two small rings soldered to the back of the pin, with a separate ring through the top for suspending. (b) pin of the Third Class of the Order of the Rising Sun, small gold pin with a white enameled starburst radiating from a solid round red enamel centre bordered in gold. Hangs from small flower pendant with three green enamel leaves and three enamel purple blossoms, the whole is suspended from a white bow with red borders attached through a stud button. This pin is contained in a square brown leather jewellery case (bb) with hinged lid lined in white velvet and satin. (c) lapel pin fob for suspending the two pins, gold circular lapel button attached to two closely linked chains which are attached to a gold straight pin at the other end.
