(a) smaller - four pearls alternated with three sapphires, prong fitting holding sapphires quite solid, clasp is simple hook. (b) longer - five sapphires alternating with four pearls. Prong fitting holding sapphires quite open, almost being four legs on which each stone rests. Pearl of uniform size but slightly irregular in shape. Hook clasp has simple locking mechanism.

(b) single pearl, 2.4x .5 x .4 , small rounded tapered ellipse of gold with tiny seed pearl , .2 cm dia set into bevelled hole at centre, hollow. Stamped on back "14k" and torch hallmark. (c) same as (b) without pearl, 1.9 x .4 x .2, die struck. Hook clasp has double legs but joined by its curve into single hook. Period 1890 - 1915. On the underside of the box are the marks “Fred Carey June 15 - 95” and “1898 New York” in pencil, and the name of Carey is written on the bottom seven times in different styles.

- An elaborately-carved, squat rectangular wooden box on four ball feet with a lockable lid. The four walls of the box have an elaborately carved floral, on the back panel a single dog running is centred, and on the ends a bird each is seen perched in the foliage. The top of the box presents a scene from "the life of the Hindu Gods," five figures one of them dog-faced, in formal pose, and on either side of that group are two fish-tailed men. A 10 cm. crack runs from the front left foot on the box base, and a crack 22 cm. long runs around the corner of the top left of the lid.
