- History / Biographical
- Caroline Hinman, 1884-1966, was a trip/tour leader who worked out of Summit, New Jersey, USA. Hinman was first introduced to the Canadian Rockies in 1913, attending several early Alpine Club of Canada camps. For almost every summer following until ca.1960, she conducted pack trips and tours throughout the Rockies, chiefly in the area between Mount Assiniboine, British Columbia, and Jasper, Alberta. During winters, her parties travelled widely in Europe, Asia and Africa. Starting in the 1940s, Hinman offered a wide variety of motor and rail trips through the Rockies, fishing expeditions in British Columbia, as well as camping trips. Hinman's motto, "off the beaten track," became the hallmark of her adventures.

- Textual records, 1915-1960, include diaries, notebooks, manuscripts, trip accounts, advertising materials, and other material. One of the diaries refers to an early trip (1915) with Mary Jobe and Curly Phillips, Robson Pass. The tour literature includes form letters, pamphlets, etc. containing itineraries for most of Hinman's trips in the Canadian Rockies.

- The 52 photographs depict a pack camel camping trip in Algeria during the Eighth Trip "Off the Beaten Track" led by Caroline Hinman in 1924. Caroline Hinman, of New Jersey, organized and led tours to various European destinations during winter months and Canadian Rockies trips in the summers almost every year from the mid-1910s until the 1960s. In the years immediately following World War I Hinman wanted to do a camping trip in the Sahara Desert and, with the help of a French outfitter based in the area, she was able to put together a 3-month tour that would include such an excursion. It is not clear how many people partook in the entire tour, but it is known that the camping trip through the desert was optional and was attended by all women. The campers, 6 ladies with Hinman, were guided by locals from the town of Touggourt eastward to Tozeur from February 1-10. They were accompanied by guides, outfitters, cooks, camels, and donkeys. The text reads "BANKHEAD VETERANS CLUB A GENERAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERS WILL BE HELD IN THE CLUB ROOMS RIGHT AFTER THIS SHOW."

- In the 1920's, Banff experienced a steady increase in tourism. This was based on a number of factors, including the introduction of the automobile in the park, the completion of the Banff-Windermere Highway and other roadways, additional accommodation (e.g. campgrounds), and the Canadian Pacific Railway's "Canadian Pacific Rockies" tourist campaign. Local prominent townspeople began to seek more say in the way their town was governed, and thus created organizations like the Banff Advisory Council and the Rocky Mountain Park Liberal Association. Issues around park boundaries, campgrounds, and park services employees' priorities were particularly important to Banff locals during this decade.

- Item consists of a bound green record book, H20 x W13 cm. The record book, with "Records" printed on the cover, is comprised of numbered lined pages and contains meeting minutes and membership lists for the Rocky Mountain Park Liberal Association from March 13th, 1924 to circa 1930. Minutes pertain to different types of meetings: general and executive. Contents pertain to various topics, including the creation of the Association and membership, provincial Liberal candidates, electing members for the Association's executive committee, concerns about who was being appointed to park services, employment in the park, advocating for the dismissal of Jack Warren (a park warden), and park boundary issues.

- Created by the Rocky Mountain Park Liberal Association.
- Dave White originally had the lease for 222 Otter Street and transferred the lease to Sam Armstrong in 1915, who had it until 1927. Sam Armstrong was a member of the Rocky Mountain Liberal Association.
- Membership included representatives from Banff, Canmore, Exshaw, and East End. Meetings were generally held at the Mount Royal Hotel in Banff and the Canmore Hotel.
- Most of the minutes were taken by W. Alexander and James Smith, who both acted as secretary at some point in the Association's history.
