Rests on 3.0 cm base decorated across front with horizontal finger grooves flanked by vertical finger grooves. Sides plain with small, 8.5 x 3.5 cm, hinged doors with vertical grooved texture and small heart shaped brass latch, one on each side, and small 3.3 x 2.5 window set above with horizontal slit through wood showing behind. Round white dial with Roman numerals is surrounded with a hand painted flower in each corner and gold vines on a dark blue background, surrounded by narrow gilt frame moulding, thin metal hands. Long, floor length brass chain hangs from holes in bottom of clock, with smaller, broken chain through two other holes. Facade in front of pointed roof contains small arched window for cuckoo bird to pop through. Plain wooden back fits into groove across bottom clock, with two metal flanges sliding into slits cut into the roof, where they are locked in place with small wire hooks through holes in the flanges. Round hanging hole cut through back near top. Attached to inside of back is circular, spiral wire sounding gong. Clockworks exposed include several gear wheels connected by wires, behind a pallisade within the clock, and flanked on either side by a pillar covered with marbelized and floral patterned paper. On a platform above in the gable sits a carved wooden cuckoo bird on a perch waiting to pop out the window, on either side of this shelf is a small square bellows.( b) pendulum, 36.0 long, brass disk hanging at bottom of brass flat rod connected to long wire hook at top. (c) weight, 2.5 x 2.0, heavy square piece of lead with multi-strand wire twisted through hole in top. Marks: paper label stuck to backing, "For Marian S. Campbell from Mom's 1955" to backing, "Never turn the hands backwards as this will damage the cuckoo striking mechanism" (tape removed and note set in front behind door). Note found with pendulum, "lift weight when winding clock to floor chain & then don't need to wind more than 1 a day, drawing of cylinder noting" 4 1/2 lbs. lead" . Note: clock needs extensive repair: surface veneer cracked and peeling on sides, painted dial plate peeling and flaking at bottom, chains seem to be stuck, hands rusting, piece of wood loose inside.
