Description
Rankin cup trophy is double handled, lidded, and sits on a circular, lathed, black painted wooden base. Tall, deep cup on circular foot, with ornate, amphora like handles. Handles have grape plant motif on thumb rests. Relief downhill skier on cup. Under skier engraved, "Won by: 1934 Victor Kutschera, 1935 Victor Kutschera, 1936 Vigo Victor Kutschera". Opposite side of cup engraved "Ski Runners of the Canadian Rockies, Downhill Challenge Cup, Presented by Mr. Niall & Lady Jean Rankin, March 1932". Hallmarks near handle include "M&W" within crest, crown within pentagon, lion passant crest and "P" within crest. Lid slopes to narrow top knob in leaf design. Hallmarks on lid rim which sits inside cup are as follows: "M&W" within crest, lion passant in pentagon and "P" within crest. Wood and cup bases stamped "Mappin & Webb" Limited, Sheffield & London .

Canisters a) and b) are “ØSTBYE - MEDIUM” with a dark brown wax. Canister c) is “ØSTBYE - MIX” and the wax is lighter in colour than a) and b), a light brown.Canisters d) and e) are covered in shiny gold metal and with black illustrations of skiers and text in English and Norwegian. These canisters are “ØSTBYE - KLISTERVOX ORIGINAL GOLDKLISTER”. Canisters f) and g) are covered in red with black illustrations and skiers and text in English and Norwegian. These canisters are “ØSTBYE - SKAREVOX”. The wax is the darkest brown of the four different types of wax.For all canisters wax can be pushed up from the bottom.
