- A set of eight small, round, double-layered white coasters with the scalloped edges stitched with black thread. Each coaster has a rooster embroidered in black and red thread. The top layer of the coater is bisected by a black embroidered, uneven, double line which finishes the edges of an opening. The base of a wine glass is slipped into this opening, ensuring that wherever the glass is placed there will always be a coaster under it.

(b) has grey and gold heron and pine tree scene. Crack at bottom right corner 3.0 cm. long. Label on back says "for Miss Maggie Brooks with kind regards of her friend W.H. Metcalf...Nikko, Japan July 7, 1877" and Japanese calligraphy written down the right side of the label.
