- General colour: green, brown. Central image is a wooden grave marker stuck at the end of a mound of dirt left of center. It reads Sacred to A.R. Underwood. Died July 31, 1886. It is shadowed by a tree whose double trunk is at the right side. Behind is woods, dark trees and light underbrush.

- A horizontal picture.The painting features a large mountain which is located in the centre and right side of picture in the background. This mountain takes up 2/3 of the picture. The mountain is lightly covered with snow, and light brown rock shows underneath. The sky is filled with grey clouds and near the mountain portions of blue sky show through these clouds. On the left side of the work, still in the background, a smaller mountain stretches to the right and turns into a valley with a small pool of water at its base near the centre of the painting. The forground contains the rocks and sparse trees of a mountain, and looks into the base of the valley.
