At the wider end of each a cutout square allows for attaching to headstall. The beads of (a) at the top are a clear blue glass, on (b) they are a frosty opaque blue.

Description
A decorative martingale for a horse in parade. Heavily beaded, it broadly forms an "H" of two strips with geometric figures on them, and a cross bar with a floral emblem on it. The vertical strips have buckskin ties at the tops, and are white with various triangles and diamonds, principally in vermilion with green and blue borders, gonfalon lower ends. The centre panel is almost square and is a very pale blue ground with a conventional flower made up of circles upon it in deep green and blood red, plus four leaves of light green. Below the panel is a fringe of light buckskin, running from strut to strut.
