History / Biographical: Mabel Sarah Aubin, 1905-1990, was a life-long resident of Banff, Alberta, Canada. Mabel Aubin's parents, the Stenton family, ran the Alberta Hotel beginning ca.1908.

Scope & Content: Fonds consists of ration books; ephemera pertaining to Banff musical and variety productions; Christmas cards from the Beil family, the de Grandmaison family, Peter and Catharine Whyte and the Christofferson family; Alberta Hotel menu, 1913; and photographs pertaining to the Stenton family, ca.1888-ca.1950, and 1918 Banff Peace Day parade (First World War), which shows citizens wearing masks in response to the influenza pandemic of 1918-1919

History / Biographical: Murray Hay is a self taught artist who left Regina at age 16 and began a career as a commercial artist. Murray Hay was born in 1931 and passed away in 2015 at the age of 84 years. Murray Hay moved to Alberta in1963? In 1976 Sir Rodney Touche approached him and asked if he would paint a ski map. The first ski map Murray painted was one of Lake Louise, the second was of Ski Big Three and the third was Sunshine Mountain ski resort

Description: Predominant colours are pink, blue, purple, green and brown. The painting is dominated by the pyramidal-shaped Mt. Assiniboine and the icefield below it. It appears to be an aerial view of sunrise on the mountain. The foreground is comprised of rocks showing through a snow-covered approach to the mountain peak. The rocks are various shades of very dark blue, lighter blue and brown. To the viewer’s left the snow is tinged in various shades of pink as the morning light strikes it and the view to the right is still in the blue shades of shadow. The artist’s signature in white is in this area. The middle of the painting is the pink glow of the sun on snow with some shaded snow and rocks still showing to the viewer’s right. The top-half is a snow-covered Mt. Assiniboine with brown rock bands; viewer’s right in the sun’s light and viewer’s left in the shade. Beyond the mountain are hills and valleys of pink, blue and green. The sky is a very deep shade of purple and blue.
