- Description
- Simple stick figurine of a pack horse with a diamond hitch pack. Body formed from a small log, four nails serve as the legs, the 4cm. long neck is a nail bored through the head which is made from a twig section 3.5 x 1 cm. diam. Two eyes represented by two small nails, two ears are also two small nails. The bark from the twig has been shaved at the bottom of the head to suggest the muzzle, an indentation is cut into bottom of head to accommodate the string bridal. The string rein is attached to top of the bulging pack which is fastened with a triple diamond hitch. Two small blocks of wood pack boxes are nailed to the body, one on either side. These blocks are concealed by an unbleached cotton tarp, cotton is stuffed, and bulges unevenly over the securing string. Cinch is fashioned from a piece of insulated copper wire. Strand of thick string nailed to rear for tail. Abrand has been burned into left front: "M" ("M" standing on rocking arch).

There are coloured bands painted under the feathers. - Ten very thin wooden arrows with pointed metal tips. The notched end of each arrow has small feathers and painted coloured bands. Four of these arrows are marked “South Bend Quality Tackle Bait Co.”. Two of these arrows are marked “The Oreno Pat. Pending”.- Five wooden arrows with pointed metal tips. These arrows have red, yellow and white bands at the feathered end. One of these arrows has a pointed spike projecting from the tip. These arrows are marked “made in U.S.A. Rounsville-Pohm, Hazel Crest, Ill. 29”. - Two wooden arrows with pointed metal tips at one end, and plastic notches at the other. There are red, white, blue and yellow bands at the notched end of each arrow. - Two arrows with blue and white bands at the notched feathered end. (f) seed and beads, 48.0x.7, single strand composed of two elliptical brown seeds alternating with two beaded oval shapes, white on the outside with red centres. (g) multicoloured with wood spikes, 30.5x3.0, single strand of oval beaded links with buckskin thongs to tie at back of neck. Appearance of claw necklace, with short pieces of wood representing the claws evenly spaced around the strand. Each wooden claw has tight loop of light blue beads at end. (h) black and white collar, 40.0x7.0, collar like necklace in a wide, netted band of rows of black, then white beads. Ties at back of neck with short buckskin thongs.
