A pair of well-used, green, lace-up gaiters made out of lightweight, waterproof, canvas material. An ankle-to-knee gaiter, one piece of material sewn together, six brass-coloured grommets on one side, six silver-coloured metal hooks with individual leather backing, on the other side, with another two grommets at the top, and a braided heavy-duty nylon lace for tightening and securing the gaiter to the calf. One gaiter has blue, waterproof patches sewn around both top grommets with green thread, also has one blue patch sewn with green thread on the outside and one on the inside; the manufacturer’s “Recreational Equipment INC. 1525 11th Avenue Seattle, Wash. 98122” label is secured on one side only. Description
A well-made green canvas rucksack with leather straps and metal buckles. It has a drawstring closure with metal grommets through which a woven cord is passed through and tied. The flap is a separate piece of canvas sewn onto the sack which is darted and rounded to fit neatly over the top of the pack. A leather strap is attached to the flap by two rivets stamped with the words “WIDE STEEL SHANK” (Note: all rivets mentioned have this lettering). The main sack/bag has a white label sewn onto the top bearing the trademark “A & F” in red thread and “Abercrombie & Fitch Co.” in blue, underneath this “NEW YORK”. Underneath the label the word “MILLS” is hand printed in black indelible ink. There are two flapped pockets attached to the front of the bag; each flap has a leather strap attached to it by one rivet. The pocket has a metal buckle attached to the flap by piece of folded leather attached by two rivets. Between the pockets is another metal buckle attached by piece of folded leather and two rivets. On the back of the bag there is a piece of leather sewn onto the top and two straps for arms to go through; each strap is attached by two rivets; 5cm from the bottom and 3.5cm from each side there are two pieces of green corded material 6.5x2w cm folded over and sewn with green thread in an X-shaped pattern. On the bottom sides of the pack there are two folded pieces of leather, through which a metal ring is inserted, attached by two rivets. A metal push clip that hooks through the ring has a folded leather piece held together by one rivet. Through these two folds the buckle and the clip are attached.

A metal hand compass (a) in a brown leather case (b) into which the compass fits perfectly. The case has “MADE IN GERMANY” stamped in ink on the inside. The compass is two-sided; one side is calibrated for a directional compass and one side is for measuring inches to miles and nautical miles (on maps). The compass is suspended on a central pivot with a metal ring on the top. The compass has a round face covered by hard clear plastic; the body of the compass is metal. The bottom of the compass is elongated with a point at the end where a small wheel is riveted onto the body. This compass wheel is used for measuring distances (land miles or nautical miles) on maps. On the directional side of the compass face the background is white and the letters and numbers are blue. The magnetic compass needle is half silver, half blue. The face dial is calibrated in degrees starting with 0, every 10 degrees marked to 330, completing the 360 degrees; N, E, S, and W and the lines marking them from the centre are in bold face blue N/E, S/E, S/W and N/W are in blue but smaller lettering. On the opposite side of the compass the outer ring is blue and the inner ring is orange, the background is white with the degrees in black; the needle is black also. The outer “inches to miles” compass has 39 on the top and every fifth degree is calibrated to 3, then 6, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36 where it comes full circle to the top at 39. The inner “Nautical Miles” starts with 0 at the top and every 10th degree is marked in succession by 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, until it comes full circle to 0. The word “GERMANY” is printed at the bottom of the compass.
