George W. Pocaterra, 1882-1972, rancher, was a pioneer of the Kananaskis region, 1906. On a visit to his native Italy in 1933, he met Norma Piper, 1898-1983, a coloratura soprano of Calgary, and they married in 1936. The Pocaterras returned to Alberta on the eve of the Second World War.

History / Biographical
Ronald Leslie Duke, 1912-1978, was a professional photographer at Banff, Alberta, Canada. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Duke was educated at Calgary, Banff and the University of Washington in Seattle, USA. After wartime service with the National Film Board of Canada, Ron Duke returned to Banff, where he worked in the photography business for the next thirty years. Here he formed a link in a business lineage of photographers, including George Noble, and was for a time an employee of Noble's corporate successors. After 1958, Duke worked closely with the Banff School of Fine Arts, photographing productions and providing documentary services. After sustaining considerable damage in a fire which destroyed Banff's Mount Royal Hotel in 1967, Ron Duke's business resumed and, in partnership with George Baracos, continued until retirement in 1975.

Most pertain to Banff National Park; also Vancouver, British Columbia; Seattle, United States; Turner Valley, Alberta and Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The Senior Friends of Banff, a senior citizens social and philanthropic organization at Banff, Alberta, Canada, was established in 1965 and operated until 1984 when the group amalgamated with the Banff Senior Citizens' Society. The Senior Friends organized social and recreational activities and raised funds for the Banff Library / Seniors Centre.

Nello "Tex" Vernon-Wood, 1882-1978, was a guide and outfitter, national park warden and writer at Banff, Alberta, Canada and area. He came to Canada, ca.1900, and lived at Medicine Hat, Alberta until 1905. After working a short time on a horse ranch, Vernon-Wood came to Banff to work as a guide for Jim Brewster, for whom he worked for eight summers. After working for the National Park warden service beginning in 1915, Vernon-Wood went into the guiding business for himself, working out of the Lake Louise area. One of his major clients was Charles Walcott, Director of the Smithsonian Institute. Vernon-Wood wrote numerous stories for American sporting magazines, the best-known being the "Pipestone Letters," published in Hunting and Fishing magazine beginning in 1935. Following his guiding career, Vernon-Wood established a boys camp in the Windermere Valley and worked for Kootenay National Park

History / Biographical
Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies is a charitable, non-profit organization based in Banff, Alberta, Canada. In 1958, the Wa-Che-Yo-Cha-Pa Foundation, presently the Peter and Catharine Whyte Foundation which operates the Whyte Museum, was founded and endowed by artists Peter and Catharine Whyte. The foundation acts as an agency for collecting and preserving cultural materials of the Canadian Rockies. In 1968, the foundation's building opened at 111 Bear Street, providing accommodation for a regional archives, gallery and public library. Between 1967 and 1983, the Archives department recorded and summarized interviews with local personalities, as well as recording noteworthy meetings and events.

William "Bill" Royle (1905-1980) moved to Banff from Lethbridge in 1952 with his mother (Mary Elizabeth) and two young sons (Bernard and Walter), following the death of his wife. William started the business Banff Plumbing and Heating Ltd., which he operated until his death. William and his brother, John J. Royle, were also involved with a laundromat business in Banff. From its inception in 1953, William also worked as director and president of the Banff Park Savings and Credit Union (now Bow Valley Credit Union). In his spare time, William volunteered with the Banff Boy Scouts, as well as St. Mary's Church in Banff, the Seniors' Society and the Alberta Council of the Aging. William's son, Bernard, tragically passed away in a plane crash in 1969 while searching for new heliskiing routes in British Columbia with his friend, John Gow, who survived.
