Description: A man stands on top of the mainsail platform using his spyglass to look out. The sailboat appears to be moving about rocky water, and on one of the ropes there is a distant little flag that appears to be American. On the port side of the boat “MADOC” is written.

The drawing is then detailed in ink and filled in with watercolour in some places. On the lower half of the page there is practice signatures and practiced ways to write “Banff,” “Alberta,” and “Canada.” There is also scribbles of ink around some of the words too.
