The whole depends from a small, flat, oval, silver-coloured metal pin with clasp. Pin is etched with a drawing of thistles, with an oval rosy-brown coloured faceted stone at its centre. Stored in box of cardboard with Blackwatch plaid cover. Handwritten inside cover; "From Father to Annie".

On the underside of the box are the marks “Fred Carey June 15 - 95” and “1898 New York” in pencil, and the name of Carey is written on the bottom seven times in different styles.
