Natural light coloured background with reddish double triangles spaced around in two rows forming a diagonal pattern with a chequered brown and black bar beneath each triangle. A row of single similar triangles beneath complete the diagonal pattern. Base has four small reddish triangles radiating from the centre of the coil, pattern carried through to inside of basket. Note: 4.0 cm piece of top coil broken off and wrapping fraying in places.

A coiled basket with flat base and straight, flaring sides, coils stitched with natural coloured split root ? with very dark brown design of same material. Design composed of three parallel lines running around the sides of the basket, along the top then slanting down, then along the bottom, then slanting up again, repeated around with the rectangular areas left between the path of the lines filled in as dark coloured parallelograms. The rim of the basket, the coil along the bottom, and one single coil in the base are dark. Design inside as well as outside, piece of knotted black thread through top coil on one side of basket, presumably for display at some time, very sturdy. Marks: round cardboard tag framed with metal attached with string to basket with string sealed to back of tag with black sealing wax with signet impression, tag handwritten in faded ink, "Fine Pima river ? Art 8913/50".

Description
A sturdy birchbark lidded pail like storage vessel made of a single piece of birchbark which has been folded to form a flat bottom, sloped in, but rectilinear, walls. Seamed and tied with pink dyed root fibre. A firm rim, probably of firm root or willow branch, bound in coiled pink and pale green root stalk, and two buckskin thongs, one at either end for carrying. The walls are drawn in and the folded up base seamed to them at either end, and the sides drawn in are stitched up to the vessel rim. A flat birchbark lid, attached to the vessel by a buckskin thong has two ties on its other side for sealing the vessel, and the lid is decorated with a conventional four petalled flower in pink strip fibre and four green leaves radiating from the centre.

Stitching is plant fibre material in three natural colours, most of the basket is beige, two rows of reddish wood coloured diamonds, each approx.4 cm. high x 3 cm. wide, are outlined in a continous black zig-zag pattern, the two rows of decoration are about 5 cm. apart, the top row is close to the rim, rim is fastened off in a simple coil sewing. A small hole (.70 cm.) in center bottom where coil begins.
