Material: fibre

Description: (a) Long sleeved, off-shoulder, long dress. Fitted bodice has fine cotton pleated at shoulder and caught at centre bust. Sleeves are full with silk embroidery above elbow. Description: A rectangular document on white paper beginning: “Know all men by these Presents ...” followed by handwriting stating the particulars of the sale, dated in Middlesex on December 29th, 1792 and signed by the Justice of the Peace. The contents state the agreement of a bill-of-sale between Asa Nurse and Thomas Buckminster. The bill is framed in a wide plain mahogany veneer frame with mitred corners.

Dimensions: 15.0; 18.0 (frame) x 20.0; 22.5 (frame) cm

Description: A needlepoint sampler, in many colours, done in cross-stitch on a loosely woven ecru linen. The sampler has a narrow double-stitched border with a floral band at the top followed by rows of letters of the alphabet separated by horizontal bars. Most of the letters are worked twice together through the alphabet repeating from A to D at the end, followed by another floral band as at the top, and then “Susanah Lehman November the 3 1796.” The sampler was originally framed in a simple brown wood frame with parallel line texture (wood grain?) and has a framer’s sticker on the back “The Royal Art Gallery” (Calgary, Alberta).

Description: Bright green bonnet (calash) with eight folds. Fabric is stitched around shaped metal stays, 14 in all. Neck piece is padded and shaped with wire. Rim has fabric folded or pleated in ribbon effect. Long green ribbon ties at front of neck. Additional long grey ribbon attached to brim higher on face. Inside back is reinforced with burlap on which is glued brown paper. Written in Mary Schaffer’s hand: “18 S.M. Potts 1832 Calasche”. On back, ribbon is tied in bow. Green fabric stitched on back to cover neck.

Description: A writing desk that features a curved and inlaid centre portion which folds back to expose four small drawers and open compartments above a pull-out writing/working surface. The desk is supported by two richly carved legs depicting acanthus leaves, terminating in brass casters. It’s flanked by a pair of brass candle holders. Below the working surface are a pair of fielded flamed mahogany doors with brass accents which enclose a storage area. The upper portion features a bookcase with a pair of glazed doors with brass accents. This mahogany secretary features numerous decorative elements including gilt mounts, brass ornamentations, detailed carvings, flamed mahogany panels and an overall exhibition of superior craftsmanship.

Description: Two crinkly parchment diplomas from Union College belonging to Patrick Robb, both etched in Latin using italic script, with certain words handwritten. (a) Bachelor of Arts, etching of three women dressed in Greek togas, Wisdom, Fame, and Happiness, walking beneath an arch of clouds at middle right side. Awarded by the curators of Union college in Schenectady, New York to "Patricius Robb", (handwritten), on August 10, 1856, signed by five professors and the president. In lower left corner is white oval paper seal stamped deeply with the Union College impression. (b) Delphic Society, at top middle, etching of three women in Greek togas, with Greek temple sitting on a high mountains in the background, awarded to "Patricius Robb", and signed by four officers and three members of the society from Union College, dated as (a), with the etched seal of the society printed at bottom. Canister, tin tube, 42.0 x 5.1 diam. with folded seam down length and high cap which slips on, slightly domed ended.
