- A metal hand compass (a) in a brown leather case (b) into which the compass fits perfectly. The case has “MADE IN GERMANY” stamped in ink on the inside. The compass is two-sided; one side is calibrated for a directional compass and one side is for measuring inches to miles and nautical miles (on maps). The compass is suspended on a central pivot with a metal ring on the top. The compass has a round face covered by hard clear plastic; the body of the compass is metal. The bottom of the compass is elongated with a point at the end where a small wheel is riveted onto the body. This compass wheel is used for measuring distances (land miles or nautical miles) on maps. On the directional side of the compass face the background is white and the letters and numbers are blue. The magnetic compass needle is half silver, half blue. The face dial is calibrated in degrees starting with 0, every 10 degrees marked to 330, completing the 360 degrees; N, E, S, and W and the lines marking them from the centre are in bold face blue N/E, S/E, S/W and N/W are in blue but smaller lettering. On the opposite side of the compass the outer ring is blue and the inner ring is orange, the background is white with the degrees in black; the needle is black also. The outer “inches to miles” compass has 39 on the top and every fifth degree is calibrated to 3, then 6, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36 where it comes full circle to the top at 39. The inner “Nautical Miles” starts with 0 at the top and every 10th degree is marked in succession by 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, until it comes full circle to 0. The word “GERMANY” is printed at the bottom of the compass.

- A small portable stove, consisting of two parts, in its original box and an instruction booklet: (a) a fuel tank canister/pipe with coil burners with a metal stand (for propping up the canister) attached to the canister; and (b) a metal hook:(a) the bomb-shaped fuel canister has a screw-on bottom that can be opened to insert fuel. The other end has a U-shaped, solid flat piece of metal soldered onto the canister. Two metal coils (each 0.50cm) are soldered on 0.50cm from the flat part that stabilizes it. Engraved on the flat part “BORDE” “PATENT” forming a circle with the logo inside. The flat metal ‘stovetop’ on which a pot would be placed, has eight metal prongs extending from a depressed circular piece; the four large prongs are bent, four small are straight. The fuel tank (16.3x6.0 wide) has a metal rod (0.50cm wide) coiled twice with each end soldered to the top of the fuel canister. There is a piece of metal tubing soldered onto the coil. The stand (9.0x4.5cm wide) is a metal rod fashioned to hold the fuel tank; each end is bent in the shape of a circle/coil to hold the stove; it fits over the canister. - A tanned, buckskin jacket with floral beadwork design. It appears to be Stoney beadwork because of the colour combinations. The jacket has beading on the shoulders and the the top front and has fringes below. The beading above across the back is of flowers with colours red, orange, beige, blue, white and red and leaves in colours of green and turquoise. The beaded butterflies on the front are (two on each side) red and blue wings surrounded by pink, and blue and orange wings surrounded by beige; all the antennae are blue. The collar is pinked and also has a strip of 1.0 pinked buckskin sewn onto it 1.50 cm from the edge. The jacket is closed by leather thongs for tying. There are two front pockets, with pinked edges. The pockets are beaded in red, yellow, blue, green and white in what seems to be a flower. There is a lining, extending 25.5 cm down from the collar, in red and white checked cotton with two horizontal lines of red hearts and flowers with green leaves. On viewer’s left there are two border strips of white and blue flowers on red with green leaves. There is a silver maple leaf (signifying that it stands for Member of the Order of Canada) soldered onto the centre of the snowflake. The maple leaf is surrounded by a red enamel ring bearing the motto of the order “DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM” (meaning “They desire a better country”) in silver lettering. The circle is topped by a crown (white, red, and turquoise) enamel simulating jewels edged in silver) of St. Edward, symbolizing that the order is headed by a sovereign. At the top of the snowflake badge there is a silver metal suspension ring. A grosgrain ribbon, white, bordered in red stripes similar to the Canadian flag, is passed through the ring and attached to a silver pin bar. The reverse side is plain silver except for the word “CANADA” and “1181” underneath, printed on the centre disc. Directly below on one of the snowflake points are some numbers and underneath that the word “RIDEAU”. On the top reverse side of the pin bar there is a horizontal hinged pin with a swivel-locking safety catch, underneath which “RIDEAU” is printed. The pin bar has an opening for the ribbon to pass through and two holes at the bottom where the ribbon is sewn to the pin bar with red thread.(a,b) The two small lapel pins (1cm high,1cm wide) are white enamel stylized snowflakes edged in silver with a silver maple leaf in the centre. On the back there is one small spike and one larger spike soldered onto the medal with a tie-tack style (spike and clutch closure attachment) pin closure. The medal and lapel pins are stored in a hinged black leatherette case lined in blue satin; the medal (a) rests in a depression, the lapel pins have no depressions for storage, the cover is lined in white satin, the letters “C.M.” in gold on outside lid.
