Title: Secretary; Writing Desk

Date: 1850

Material: wood, mahogany;

Description: A writing desk that features a curved and inlaid centre portion which folds back to expose four small drawers and open compartments above a pull-out writing/working surface. The desk is supported by two richly carved legs depicting acanthus leaves, terminating in brass casters. It’s flanked by a pair of brass candle holders. Below the working surface are a pair of fielded flamed mahogany doors with brass accents which enclose a storage area. The upper portion features a bookcase with a pair of glazed doors with brass accents. This mahogany secretary features numerous decorative elements including gilt mounts, brass ornamentations, detailed carvings, flamed mahogany panels and an overall exhibition of superior craftsmanship.
