The film was directed by Robert Altman and co-written by Robert Altman and Alan Rudolph. Key stars in the film include Paul Newman (Buffalo Bill), Frank Kaquitts (Sitting Bull), Joel Grey (The Producer), and Kevin McCarthy (The Publicist). Other actors include Harvey Keitel, Allan F. Nicholls, Geraldine Chaplin, John Considine, Fred N. Larsen, Pat McCormick and Burt Lancaster. History / Biographical: "Days of Heaven," 1976, directed by Terrence Malick, starring Richard Gere, Brooke Adams, and Linda Manz. A Chicago steelworker escapes to Texas with his girlfriend and sister. The trio joins a group of itinerant harvesters to work on a ranch owned by a bachelor farmer. Believing the young couple to be brother and sister, the farmer falls in love with the girl. The young boyfriend encourages the relationship and eventual marriage in hopes they can inherit the farm. Location: Two short scenes in Waterton Lakes National Park. Primary set location on a Hutterite colony near Raymond, Alberta. Other scenes filmed near Lethbridge and at Calgary’s Heritage Park. History / Biographical: "To Elvis With Love" also known as "Touched by Love," 1980, directed by Gus Trikonis and starring Deborah Raffin, Diane Lane, Michael Learned, Clu Gulager, and John Amos. Based on a real-life therapist who cared for a wheelchair-bound girl suffering with cerebral-palsy. The young, unresponsive patient is rehabilitated through correspondence with her favourite performer Elvis Presley. Location filming in Banff townsite and vicinity—Banff Springs Golf Course Clubhouse, Banff High School, and Lake Minnewanka road. A number of Banff teenagers were used in the movie as well as a group of special-needs students from Calgary.

History / Biographical: Bruno Engler, 1915-2001, was a mountain guide, ski instructor, photographer and film maker at Banff and Canmore, Alberta, Canada. Engler arrived from Switzerland in 1939 and initially worked as a mountain guide and ski instructor for the Canadian Pacific Railway, Sunshine ski area and for Deer Lodge at Lake Louise, Alberta. During the Second World War, he served as a mountain warfare instructor for the Canadian Army. Following the war, Engler worked as a free-lance photographer for the National Film Board and others; as coach of the University of Alberta Ski Team; and as a technical advisor, cameraman and actor for numerous movies made in the Banff area. Throughout his career, Engler worked as a still and motion picture photographer, both for the movie industry and for governments at all levels, as well as operating his own business, Alpine Films of Banff, Alberta.

Scope & Content: Fonds is primarily a broad-ranging commercial negative collection pertaining to Banff and area, including businesses, buildings, projects, events, people and scenic views; skiing, mountain travel and recreation; Sunshine Village Ski Area; warden activities in the mountain parks; national and provincial parks; scenic views of western Canada, particularly mountain landscapes; some portraits and candid shots of local and international personalities.
