There is a low relief wreath of maple leaves on the back of the medal along with an inscription “2nd Pole Vault Winnipeg 1909”. The reverse of the medal also has hallmarks and “S25 Sterling”.

- Typical ice axe, well used, pointed pick, curved adze and pointed slightly curved spike with serated (4) blade and two long metal strips extending 11 cm. from head (blade) riveted to the wooden shaft, two rivets to each side. There is a round hole in the bottom of the axe head where it fits onto the wooden shaft. Neatly carved into the wooden shaft 1.50 cm from the head are the words “MT. COOK” and underneath 12349 and at 2.5 cm. there is an “EM” scored in the wooden shaft. Engraved on pick blade: "J. Charlet a Chamonix” and to the left of this is an ibex logo. On the metal tube that extends from the wooden shaft there is a copper-coloured vertical line (might be a solder line).
