Physical Description: 2 photographs : b&w prints ; 20.5 x 25 cm and 18 x 12.5 cm

History / Biographical: Simon Fraser (1776-1862) was an explorer who was involved extensively with the fur trade in Western Canada during the early 19th century. Fraser began his career in 1793 as a clerk and in 1801 he became a trading partner with the Northwest Company. While working for the company, Fraser participated in expeditions throughout the Canadian Rockies to establish trade relationships with local Indigenous populations. In 1808, Fraser and 23 men completed a 36-day expedition following what was mistakenly believed to be the Columbia River, which ended at Musqueam. The river was later named "Fraser River" in his honour by David Thompson. Following the conflict leading up to the Seven Oaks Massacre, Fraser moved to St. Andrews West to live with family, where he met and married his wife Catherine. The couple had 9 children together. In 1838, Fraser fought in the Upper Canada Rebellion, resulting in a knee injury which left him permanently disabled. Fraser died at the age of 86 in 1862, and was buried in St. Andrews West with his wife who died the following day.

The Kidney Kabins business was closed when Maud and Forest Kidney sold the property it was on in 1953.

History / Biographical: The Mile-Hi Lodge in Banff was owned and operated by John D. "Jack" Anderson (1917-1964). Anderson purchased the property located at 402 Banff Ave. in 1956 and operated the Mile-Hi Lodge until his death in 1964. The lodge remained in business under Anderson's estate until at least 1969, but was likely closed prior to the property's sale in 1973.

Scope & Content: File consists of 38 commercial souvenir postcards pertaining to areas in Canada and Panama. Includes a collection of 20 image cards titled "Souvenir Views: Panama and the Canal"; 10 mini postcards titled "Minicards by Intag: Vancouver, Canada" and original annotated envelope; an exterior view photograph of Mile-Hi Lodge in Banff; a postcard print depicting 4 unnamed individuals on a narrow bridge titled "Suspension Bridge Capilano Canyon N. History / Biographical: Lester Gus Zarkos, b.1921 Brandon, MB. His parents and younger sister arrived Banff 1926. Lester's parents had the cafe on Banff Avenue (old location - Grizzly House) and lived upstairs. Parents separated. Lester's father Samuel Zarkos, d. 1933 (buried in old Banff Cemetary). Lester moved with his mother Alice to Chicago and lived between Chicago and St. Paul's MN until his mother died, ca. 1935. Lester joined RCAF as a rear gunner. Never saw action and returned to Banff following the war. Lester worked at Banff Cafe as waiter. Lester and his uncle Paul Zarkos of Calgary opened a deli on Banff Ave and operated it for a number of years. Lester relocated to Calgary in 1956 and worked as waiter, maitre d', and returned to Banff in 1966 where he operated Banff Delicatessen on Banff Ave. He married H.G. in 1951. H.G. was from Nanton, Alberta and she worked at the Banff Post Office. Following Mount Royal Hotel fire, the family left and returned to the space - Welch's Chocolate Shop. 3 children: Paulette Jean, b.1952; Leslie David, b.1953, d. 1974; Carolyn Anne, b. 1955.
