Description: A Japanese sketchbook with ecru-coloured brocade covers, no spine, with folding pages designed accordion-style, but made in such a way pages are double-backed and are two pages wide so that it is possible to paint or sketch on both sides. It contains various sketches and paintings done in pencil, ink and watercolours. On the front cover, viewer’s left, there is a glued piece of off-white paper 10.4x2.0cm wide, and on the back inside cover, viewer’s left there is a chop mark (1.0x0.50cm wide) in ochre ink.

Description: Spiral-bound sketchbook with red and white-patterned cardboard covers and a black fabric elastic band attached to the back cover for the purpose of holding the book closed. A white paper sticker is adhered to the front cover with “Spring Block, Drawing Paper, By T.S.” printed in black on it - “Peter Whyte” is written in pencil in the TLC. Contents include scene sketches from a 1934 trip to Japan by Peter and Catharine. Consists mostly of people sitting at tables presumably playing cards, Catharine reading the newspaper, figure studies, and a horse-drawn 2-wheel carriage.
