(a) A dark gold-coloured pin contained in its original paper jeweller’s box (b). The round pin has with an outer rim with lettering and an inner circle which is divided into four segments by a pair of crossed skis and an ice axe with a trailing cord. The top section, clockwise, features the embossed head of a moose whose horns extend to the rim of the pin face; a maple leaf, a blue and red enamelled Union Jack; and a bear’s head. The outer rim has a dot on the middle bottom followed by: clockwise, “THE SKI CLUB OF THE”, 3 dots between moose’s horns, “CANADIAN ROCKIES”. A scrolled rim extending from the bottom of the circular pin face about one-third of the circumference has these words in Latin: “PER ARDUA AD MONTES”, roughly translated ‘through difficulties to the mountains’. The back of the pin has a pin set soldered on one-third from the top; one horizontal long-hinged pin rivetted at one end and fastened at the other by a swivel-locking safety clasp. (b) A square (3.8x3.8) red paper box filled with cotton batting. The top of the box has, in gold-coloured engraved script, “Cartier Ltd.” and printed underneath “LONDON”.

A pair of brown leather, over-ankle, square-toed, unlined ski touring boots, with thick rubber soles (1.30cm on the sole, 2.50cm on the heel), a grooved heel for a cable, and seven grommeted eyelets with yellow and brown laces. There are straps sewn on both sides of the boots; one with a buckle and one with holes; a leather loop pull-off on the back of the heel and boots have felt sole liners. There is a white label with blue lettering on the tongue, right boot “PIONEER by Daoust” (in script). Also on the outside ankles, viewer’s left, left boot (b) and viewer’s right of right boot (a), above the ankle, is the number “9” handwritten in black indelible ink, also written on the tongue “9” on the left boot and above the label on the right boot. On the stitched and nailed soles, near the toe, a “9” is imprinted in the rubber and then circled in black pen ink, and on the heel an imprint of a coniferous tree with SK in the middle and underneath “MADE IN CANADA”.

Description
A pair of very long, brown varnished wood, jumping skis with metal bindings. Skis are thicker at the centre, tapering toward the tail and the tip which curves upward slightly and is carved into a lancet arch with a small protrusion at the point. Bottom of each ski has three tracking grooves, top has faint incised lines following the edges of the ski and forming an arch within the arch of the tip. Metal bindings consist of a large metal plate with toe brackets which secure boot by means of a thick leather strap which buckles over boot. A.L.&W. Mikro Skirite, Toronto , a small metal bracket with four slots for adjusting ski cable in front if large plate. "Kandahar" Made in Switzerland), a small bracket on either side of the middle edge of the ski with two hooks for the cable. Two large round holes joined by a slot which pass through the ski from one side to the other just beneath the large metal plate, have been plugged with wood and mastic of some sort. Note: a series of drilled holes approximately 12 cm. long are in front of the small cable adjusting bracket.

Two front pockets zip with small ring tabs at the end of short chains. Four 8.0 cm wide belt loops plus a narrower one to centre back. Bottoms of legs have 10.0 cm pleat opening. Twill tape bound edges, and under foot strap which is doubled on outside to attach to each side of pleat opening. Inner waistband of satiny cotton. Marks, on right pocket, "24 61889".(b) On waistband inside by zipper, "9 1991", and on right pocket many numbers with "8 12608" most prominent tag "8689" (removed). (c)Label, The Country Store, bull's head logo, Concord, Mass____Sarasota Edgartown Nantucket". (d) Numbers stamped on pockets, paper ski lift ticket attached to one pocket rings, "Mt. Norquay Ski Area Banff, Alberta, logo of rhombus containing line drawing of mountains and sun, 1941, in red, Exchange" is blue and stamped "1/4" and 3/4" with printed Notice on reverse about transferability of ticket.
