- Description
- A needlepoint sampler, in many colours, done in cross-stitch on a loosely woven ecru linen. The sampler has a narrow double-stitched border with a floral band at the top followed by rows of letters of the alphabet separated by horizontal bars. Most of the letters are worked twice together through the alphabet repeating from A to D at the end, followed by another floral band as at the top, and then “Susanah Lehman November the 3 1796.” The sampler was originally framed in a simple brown wood frame with parallel line texture (wood grain?) and has a framer’s sticker on the back “The Royal Art Gallery” (Calgary, Alberta).

- Two identical metal tripods with burgundy legs attached with white string. Three adjustable knobs are located at the top of the tripod allowing the metal bar inside to be adjusted maximizing the height. The folding and collapsible legs extend away from the vertical center in three sections to a length of 54.0 cm. A fourth adjustable knob, located at the bottom of the metal bar and meeting the top of the legs, allows the user to extend the legs of the tripod to the desired height. Each of the four knobs has the maker’s mark inscribed and reads: “ACME- LITE-CHICAGO- ” around the circumference. The feet are at a 45 degree angle and have a rubber stopper on the bottom giving the portable three-legged frame greater stability to resist lateral forces. A tripod may have been used for motion and still photography to prevent movement or to help achieve precise framing of an image.

Very full skirt is fitted over the hips flounce beginning at the front waist and passing down under the hips and across the back. (b) chemise, very plain creamy white sheer silk with rounded neck and built up straps, and wide ruffle at hem. Lined from underarms to floor with opaque, slightly shiny silk. (c) veil, creamy white, plain tulle netting fastened to a headband of small white plastic flowers and buds. Veil forms a small cap over back of head. Veil in front loops under chin in loose folds and is gathered up at each ear to fall loosely at the sides of the face to the floor. Two extremely long lengths of netting gathered at the ends of the headband fall down the back forming a long train.
