Content pertains to a July-August 1943 trip with Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies which included multiple locations: Banff, Canmore, Spray Lakes, Wonder Pass, Mount Assiniboine, Simpson Summit, Larix Lake, Citadel Pass and Healy Creek. Second half of album pertains to Sky Line Hike Camp trip through Goat Creek and Spray River in August, 1943. Photographs depict group shots of riders on horseback and individuals hiking, swimming, scenic views of mountains, lakes, etc., portraits/individual shots of trip attendees, and views of teepees and campsites. Album also contains 3 newspaper clippings with articles related to trips, Trail Riders ticket for Miss Jeanne Nelson (July 30th - August 3rd, 1943) and 2 small booklets (one pertaining to each of two trips depicted in album). Pamphlet for Trail Riders packing trip is covered in signatures of trip attendees. Photos depict individuals including Carl Rungius, Jeanne Nelson, Wilf Bennett, Jean Stewart, and Peggy Robinson.

Many of the prints in this file were taken early in Nicholas Morant's career (ca. 1936 - 1940), and most are dated and signed by Morant. One attributed to 'Associated Screen News', creator unknown.

However, the specific copies of the photographs contained within this file were used by Nicholas Morant for personal display, and therefore have been categorized as personal photography. Each print within this file was originally framed, and recently removed due to storage and conservation reasons. - Charlie Hunter (1888-1982) of Pincher Creek, Alberta, worked as a guide for Jim Boyce in the 1920s and 1930s, and was especially associated with Caroline Hinman's tours. Don Schoening (1918-2018), Charlie Hunter's nephew, worked as a wrangler for his uncle on Hinman's trail rides in Banff National Park in 1934 and 1936. Schoening also ran the pack trains that carried the building supplies for Skoki Lodge in 1936.

- History / Biographical
- Simon Fraser (1776-1862) was an explorer who was involved extensively with the fur trade in Western Canada during the early 19th century. Fraser began his career in 1793 as a clerk and in 1801 he became a trading partner with the Northwest Company. While working for the company, Fraser participated in expeditions throughout the Canadian Rockies to establish trade relationships with local Indigenous populations. In 1808, Fraser and 23 men completed a 36-day expedition following what was mistakenly believed to be the Columbia River, which ended at Musqueam. The river was later named "Fraser River" in his honour by David Thompson. Following the conflict leading up to the Seven Oaks Massacre, Fraser moved to St. Andrews West to live with family, where he met and married his wife Catherine. The couple had 9 children together. In 1838, Fraser fought in the Upper Canada Rebellion, resulting in a knee injury which left him permanently disabled. Fraser died at the age of 86 in 1862, and was buried in St. Andrews West with his wife who died the following day.
