- History / Biographical
- The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies is a trail riding organization based in Calgary, Alberta. The organization was established in 1923 with the support of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The first ride was held in 1924, and annual summer trail rides and pow-wows attracted fifteen hundred members by 1929. Many notable residents of the Bow Valley, including members of the Brewster and Moore families, Catherine Robb and Peter Whyte, and Carl Rungius have participated in trail rides. Support from the Canadian Pacific Railway ended in 1961. As of 2020, the Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies remains an active organization. - Jimmy Simpson Sr. was a backpacker and outfitter in the Banff / Rocky Mountains region. He built the Num-Ti-Jah Lodge near Bow Lake which him and his wife Williamina ran from 1920 - 1945, and led many hunting and climbing expeditions in the area. Jimmy and Williamina had three children: Jimmy Simpson Jr. (who took over the Lodge in 1945), and daughters Margaret and Mary Simpson who became famous as professional ice skaters, the 'Simpson Sisters' in the late 1930's.

- File consists of 7 mounted photographic prints, b&w, each signed by Nicholas Morant. Content pertains to some of Nicholas Morant's earlier work, including some pre-WWII era natural scenes, an image of a lone horseman climbing a rocky hill, one image of a woman herding ducks or geese, one dark image of steam trains, and a blurred/faded image titled "Shipmates", taken in Vancouver.

- Some photographs in this file may be subject to copyright ownership by the Canadian Pacific company, and some were likely used for professional purposes at some point. However, these specific copies have been categorized as 'personal' rather than professional as they were kept by Nicholas Morant for personal use. All prints in this file were originally in frames, and were removed for storage and conservation reasons. Frames for items PA - 20, PA - 22 and PA - 23 were each labelled with the number '4827' on the back. The frame from PA - 23 also had an attached label which read as follows: "Hudson's Bay Company ART DEPARTMENT 4827 Winnipeg"

- Originally stored in small white envelope, labelled "ETCHING SCREENS by Jack Powell" with Nicholas Morant stamp on front; labelled "Mt Balfor, Nick Morant 20 x 24 Crop Flare from Sky" ("ARCHIVES OF THE CANADIAN ROCKIES" text logo at bottom) Smaller envelope containing prints was originally in larger cream-coloured envelope with "ILFORD ILFOBROM SURFACE SAMPLE PRINTS" labelled on front; Back labelled: "ILFORD Photo (Canada) Limited 2751 John Street, Markham, Ontario L3R 2Y8" "ETCHING SCREENS Powell Process 2 Kodak Pamphlets ILFOBROM Samples" 3 other non-annotated booklets, titled "Kodak Photographic Materials Guide" (n.d.), "A Guide to Kenko Filters" (n.d.) and "Kodak Color Films" (1968) originally stored in larger cream envelope with prints; have been moved to "Accn. 2014.8346 Non-Annotated" file box in upstairs vault.
