Each lamp has a square base of glass for about 1/3 of its height becoming round and faceted, shaped similarly to an electric light bulb at the top, where the oil supply is located. - A flat-based, straight-sided birchbark box with smooth, flush, overfitting lid. Walls decorated with pink and white porcupine quills, and walls of lid similarly decorated. The top of the lid is decorated with an overlapped pattern of brown and white quills in a floral motif, with "stamens" of green quills bursting from the centre. About 5% of the quills are loose at one end, some quills lost. Thread which binds grass to rim of lid has frayed severely. Box contains six quartz crystals.

- Description
- A coal miner's safety lamp, heavy brass base which acts as fuel chamber is surmounted by a glassed in cylinder protected by strong vertical shafts of wire. A brass ring atop them which supports, by steel shafts, a top plate with a large hook on it for hanging the lamp. Between the upper ring and the top plate is a wire mesh cylinder which allows oxygen to feed the flame but which diffuses the heat rising from the flame. The lamp itself consists of a wick which draws fuel from the reservoir, and beside it is a small wire hook which can be operated from the bottom of the lamp base to extinguish the flame.
