She has hair to her chin and has closed eyes and mouth. Her left arm/hand is placed on the front of the child who is carved out of the front of her body, his head just under her breasts. He is about two-thirds the size of the woman’s body, has closed eyes and mouth, and has his right arm in front of his body, under his mother’s hand. The woman appears to be wearing a two-piece long garment; the child has carved legs and his feet are resting on the base. The piece is signed on the bottom of the base by the maker carving out “H. Poirion”.

Two loom-woven bead strips with green lines and white, yellow and blue diamonds attached on either side of the bag’s front opening. The machine-sewn bag is lined with green cotton at the top, printed baby fabric with kittens and balls of yarn, and blue fabric at the bottom of the bag. The board has two rectangular handles near the top. There is a bent stick with notched ends and bark removed (attaches for sunshade?). Tag attached: “Plains Ind? very soft doeskin.”
