Description
A well-made green canvas rucksack with leather straps and metal buckles. It has a drawstring closure with metal grommets through which a woven cord is passed through and tied. The flap is a separate piece of canvas sewn onto the sack which is darted and rounded to fit neatly over the top of the pack. A leather strap is attached to the flap by two rivets stamped with the words “WIDE STEEL SHANK” (Note: all rivets mentioned have this lettering). The main sack/bag has a white label sewn onto the top bearing the trademark “A & F” in red thread and “Abercrombie & Fitch Co.” in blue, underneath this “NEW YORK”. Underneath the label the word “MILLS” is hand printed in black indelible ink. There are two flapped pockets attached to the front of the bag; each flap has a leather strap attached to it by one rivet. The pocket has a metal buckle attached to the flap by piece of folded leather attached by two rivets. Between the pockets is another metal buckle attached by piece of folded leather and two rivets. On the back of the bag there is a piece of leather sewn onto the top and two straps for arms to go through; each strap is attached by two rivets; 5cm from the bottom and 3.5cm from each side there are two pieces of green corded material 6.5x2w cm folded over and sewn with green thread in an X-shaped pattern. On the bottom sides of the pack there are two folded pieces of leather, through which a metal ring is inserted, attached by two rivets. A metal push clip that hooks through the ring has a folded leather piece held together by one rivet. Through these two folds the buckle and the clip are attached.

Slightly smaller than that is the shield-shaped, white felt surface (8.5cmx6.5cm wide) of the badge. The words “SUNSHINE BANFF” are printed in navy blue ink on top of the white, felt surface. There is white stitching around the printing. Below that is a cutout area displaying the bright blue felt underneath. A superimposed, pinked-edged, yellow, felt sun is stitched on in the middle of that. Below and comprising three-quarters of the patch are a superimposed bright blue “S” in the middle and on either side of that, to the viewer’s left, a red, felt piece of material is stitched on to represent a gate flag, and to the viewer’s right in the distance, therefore smaller, is another red gate flag.(e) a shield-shaped, felt patch measuring 10.0cmx8.00cm. There are four layers to the patch. The backing is white felt and covering this, slightly smaller (9.50cmx7.50cm wide) is a pinked-edged, shield-shaped, white, paper backing covered by a pinked edged, shield-shaped, bright blue shield (9.50cmx7.50cm wide). Slightly smaller than that is the shield-shaped, white felt surface (8.5cmx6.3cm wide) of the badge. The words “SUNSHINE BANFF” are printed in red ink on top of the white, felt surface. Arced under the circle in green embroidery is printed “75 STAFF 76”. (i) This patch is in an unopened plastic package closed with a stapled, red and white packaging label that has “‘CANADA” printed on the front and “HOT BOND” stamped in purple ink over a red maple leaf. On the back printed in red lettering on white background “DESIGNED IN CANADA” “N.K. SOUVENIRS LTD. 985 Blue Mountain Street (COQ.) NEW WESTMINSTER B.C.” “936-7332”, on the bottom of the label packaging on viewer’s left “PRINTED IN CANADA”, on the viewer’s right a triangle wih “N.K. SOUVENIRS”. A Sunshine Village patch made of machine-embroidered, light-weight, white canvas. The patch measure 6.4cm radius; a circle with an arced banner underneath. The outer rim is embroidered in green thread. Inside the circle is a black-rimmed, embroidered, yellow sky, underneath that green mountains, underneath that, embroidered, irregular, black printing ”Sunshine Village”. The back of the patch is bonded with special glue, once heat pressed, will adhere to clothing.(j) A circular magenta patch measuring 7.70cm radius. In the centre of the patch is a silver smiling face of a sun, with the eyes, lips, and outer rays in gold. The backing is stitched-on, black fabric.(k) A six-sided patch of red felt with a black, polyester, machine-stitched piece of six-sided fabric on top. It has a skier, with a gold sun face (‘sunshine head’), embroidered in the middle of the patch. On the top are the words “SUNSHINE VILLAGE”, on the bottom “BANFF CANADA”.(l) to (z) 15 identical Sunshine Village staff patches measuring 11.2cm radius. The circular patches have an inside rim of gold against a bright blue background. In the centre is a person with a ‘sunshine’ head, (a smiling yellow face with rays of the sun) flying through the air on skiis. Arced on the top in yellow lettering ‘SUNSHINE VILLAGE” and on the bottom “STAFF”.(aa)a circular , green felt patch, 11.0cm radius, with a painted-on, green, bombardier-type snowcat against a white/blue mountain and snow; on either side is a snow-covered evergreen. Arced on top in white gold-rimmed letters “COLUMBIA ICE FIELDS” and on the bottom “CANADA”.(bb) A circular felt patch measuring 8.9cm radius. The patch has three layers of felt machine stitched on top on each other. The royal blue backing and the next light blue piece have pinked edges and are the same size. On top of this (radius 7.5cm) is a piece red felt, machine stitched to that is a brown mountain with a white peak. Arced over the mountain in individual stitched-on, white lettering with blue thread outlines “D.” “H.” “D.”. The word “BANFF” is embroidered in a straight line, in blue thread on the bottom. There is a pinked-edged paper label glued on the back; part of it is missing. The label depicts two banners with an open scissors over them. One red banner reads “PERCYS”, the white banner read “FELTIES”. The remains of a telephone number 8833-95 is on the torn part and underneath “EDM”.(cc) A white, felt patch (11.3cmx9.4cm wide) in the shape of a maple leaf with a banner on the bottom. There is a machine-embroidered red maple leaf stitched through a gauze backing and a banner outline with the word ”CANADA” stitched in red on a white background.(dd) A simple, oval-shaped, royal blue, felt patch (12.0cmx9.40cm wide) with a painted yellow number “6” on the surface. (ee) A simple, green, felt, triangle (8.20cmx9.20cm) with an inside triangular outline in white paint and the letters ”C” on top and then “YH” on the bottom.(ff) A squared, (11.7cmx10.4cm wide) but with corners cut off, felt patch. The backing is black gauze, the next layer is a stiff burlap weave, and on top of that is a layer of royal blue felt; all three have pinked edges. Sewn onto the surface is a slightly smaller squared, but with corners cut off, grey, felt patch with individual cutout royal blue, felt letters “OCD” sewn on.(gg) A red, felt, shield-shaped patch (16.0cmx13.5cm wide) with a smaller green, shield-shaped, felt piece sewn on top. A yellow, felt, letter ”W” is sewn on the surface and underneath is a small red, shield-shaped, felt piece wih a yellow, felt “B” sewn on top of that. (hh) A green, shield-shaped, felt patch (14.3cmx12.2cm wide) with a smaller red shield-shaped, felt piece sewn on top. A yellow, felt, letter ”W” is sewn on the surface and underneath is a small green, shield-shaped, felt piece wih a yellow, felt “B” sewn on top of that. (ii) A red, shield-shaped, felt patch (11.2cmx10.0cm wide) with a smaller green, shield-shaped, cutout, felt piece sewn on top with yellow thread. A yellow, felt, letter ”W” outlined in green felt, is sewn onto the surface into the circular cutout (so that it is sewn on the red felt) and underneath, on the green felt shield cutout is the word “High” written in script and stitched in yellow thread. The white gauze backing is stamped with purple ink “CREST CRAFT” underneath ”SASKATOON, SK.”. Remnants of the paper pattern are visible through the gauze material.(jj) A red, shield-shaped, felt patch (9.9cmx9.8cm wide) with a smaller, green, shield-shaped, cutout, felt piece sewn on top with gold/beige thread. A yellow, felt, letter ”W” outlined in green felt, is sewn onto the surface into the circular cutout (so that it is sewn on the red felt) and underneath, on the green felt shield cutout is the word “High” written in script and stitched in gold/beige thread. The white cotton backing is stamped with purple ink “CREST CRAFT” underneath “SASKATOON, SK.”

Description
Three identical plastic-coated, novelty, Sunshine Village advertising ski hill pins measuring 6.3cm in radius. The circular pins have a paper, coloured photograph of a girl wearing nothing but sunglasses on top of her head, and ski boots and skis. She is standing on the ski hill between some coniferous trees. Below the girl in arced, black, letters “a little streak of Sunshine” is printed. The metal back of the pin has a horizontal pin set with a safety-pin type of clasp with a u-type closure for the pin.

Description
A well-worn, light brown, felt cowboy hat with a crease in the the crown and a turned-up brim on both sides. The sweatband is missing, in its stead are the remnants of thread and glue with holes punched in at intervals where a cord is threaded through so the hat will stay on the head. There is an oval of white glue on the inside crown where a label may have been. There is also the remnants of a paper label from Smithbilt hats (2.3x1.0cm wide) in white with blue outline and lettering “BILT”. There are three brands marked on the hat: Albert Johnston’s, on the back, of an “R and half-circle” (2.4cm); from the front, viewer’s right, a “Y” (3.2x3.0cm wide) with a straight line underneath (the threaded gold cord is tied directly under this); on the opposite side, viewer’s left, is a drawing of a broken ski pole (2.5x2.8cm wide) that is Erling Strom’s brand. There are chew marks on the brim, a large one 6.0 long and up to 1.0cm deep, 4.0cm to the left of this is another chew mark 0.50cm and a tear 1.0cm.

Description
A stuffed male thin horn sheep’s head (see cataloguer’s remarks) mounted on a wood plaque for hanging. The sheep head measures: 48.0cm from the neck to the top of the head; 55.0cm from the neck to the top of the horn; 44.0cm depth from neck to snout; and 59.0cm wide for the spread from horn tip to horn tip. The sheep has two large backward curling horns (right horn: 89.50cmx 31.50cm wide, depth 11.0cm) (left horn: 91.25cmx32.0cm wide, depth 11.0cm). The horns are brown and tan and have been well used. The growth rings (called annuli) number 68. The fur is light brown and light tan on the muzzle and under the chin. The mouth is sewn shut leaving a black line that leads up to the black split nostrils. The eyeballs are glass and the eyelids are black rimmed; the black line extends well beyond the inside corner of the eyes. The head is mounted on a wood shield-shaped plaque and painted brown. Below the sheep’s head, printed on the wood shield in black ink with a felt-tipped pen is “1/8/1972”, underneath that, “LONGLAKE - YUKON”, and underneath that “AL PERRIN”. On the unpainted surface of the backside of the wood shield “AL PERRIN” is printed with a black ink felt-tipped pen, underneath that “Aug 1/72”, and underneath that “LONG LAKE YUKON”. There is a hole bored into the back, 2.50cm from the top, so it can be hung on a nail or screw. There are also three holes bored into the back, into which screws have been inserted, to adhere the head to the plaque. The measurements for the wood plaque are: 56.0cmx38.0cm wide (at its widest point), 31.0cm at its narrowest point and the depth is 2.0cm.
