- The Soo Line’s Famous Trains To Canada is a brief history of a small and unique Class 1 railway and its famous Canada–USA tourist trains. Initially chartered in 1883 to serve the needs of local millers in Minneapolis, the Soo would eventually come to join the Canadian Pacific line at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, with service to Montreal. In 1888, Canadian Pacific assumed controlling interest in the Soo Line, providing entry into the lucrative US market and levelling the playing field for the CPR to face the onslaught of ferocious competition from James J. Hill, the infamous American railway baron. The “little railway that could” grew to attain giant-killer status, launching famous passenger trains from Minneapolis and St. Paul, meeting head-on the western expansion of the Great Northern Railway and viable, competitive routes to the Atlantic seaboard. Over the years, the Soo Line introduced thousands of Americans to Montreal and Quebec City, the famous Canadian Rockies resorts, and the city of Vancouver, the home port for CP’s Pacific steamship services. The Soo also successfully competed on the Spokane and Portland routes from Minneapolis to the Pacific Northwest. A metal pin set with a wide pin bar is inserted into the fold and (b) a grosgrain ribbon in red and white (colours of the Austrian flag) is folded into the shape of a small bow and sewn onto a metal back of a tie-tack style (spike and clutch closure attachment) lapel pin. (a) A grosgrain ribbon in red and white (colours of the Austrian flag) is folded into the shape of a triangle. A metal pin set with a wide pin bar is inserted into the fold. The hinged pin comes through the fabric at the back displaying a barrel-type catch for closing. A silver-coloured metal hook is sewn onto the top part; this hooks through a silver-coloured rivet in the bottom of the folded triangular-shaped ribbon and attaches to a metal ring, which in turn is attached to a ring soldered to the top part of the back of a heraldic gold-coloured stylized eagle, wings outstretched, embossed with ten divisional/regimental shields, one under the head and nine on the tips of the its feathers. There is a second ring soldered onto the bottom back of the eagle, suspended from which is a gold-coloured Maltese cross with webbed design surface and a flat-surfaced Christian cross in the centre.(b) A grosgrain ribbon in red and white (colours of the Austrian flag) is folded into the shape of a small bow and sewn onto a metal back of a tie-tack style (spike and clutch closure attachment) lapel pin. The size is (2.5 wide x 1 width x 1cm deep).The medal and lapel pin are stored in a red-paper covered metal hinged box (black bottom) lined with white satin on the inside cover and white faux velvet on the container part with depressions made for the medal and the lapel pin. Gold script with the jeweller’s particulars “Friedrich Orth Wien seit 1840” is embossed on the inside cover. A heraldic eagle is embossed in gold on the top of the box lid.

- Circular metal and enamel pin with the inner circle containing a stylized mountain on the top-third of a segmented globe on a blue enamel background, Above the circle are the letters “UIAGM” and below “IVBV”. The outer ring of the circular pin has these words printed on it “GUIDE DE MONTAGNES GUIDA BERGFUHRER”. The front of the pin is coated with clear plastic, presumably for protection from the elements as it must be worn when guiding. The back of the pin has two horizontal hinged pins on two separate pin sets with a swivel-locking safety catch for each of the pins. In between the pin sets is a rectangular box with the letter “K” on top and then “KOFEL-BZ”.

- The boat "Qualicum Wind" was christened by the daughter of its builder, Brian Salmon, in honour of Eleanor Luxton. Salmon's goal was to reenact the voyage of Norman Luxton's canoe, the Tilikum, in order to celebrate and publicize Norman's journey.
