- A watercolour landscape painting. A large dark green/blue pool in the centre is surrounded by rocks and dominates the painting. Just above and to the left is another small pool. The rocks surrounding the pool are beige and brown with dark blue accents and outlines. There are a couple small patches of green grass amongst the rocks. Faint pencil marks of letters can be seen scattered on rocks and pencil marks of outline sketch. The artist signature is in the bottom rhc, “A.J.CASSON”. Au verso there are two stickers. The one in the top left corner is brown with black print, “ROBERTS GALLERY LIMITED Dealers in Fine Paintings and Frames since 1842 641 YONGE ST. - - - TORONTO. - The light and dark turquoise of Bow Lake is placed in the middleground. At the base of the picture, the lake is described by a horizontal stroke of light grey and by a number of vertical brushstrokes of turquoise. The vegetation in front of the lake, in the lower left and right corners, contains the same dark green, and light violet-grey found in the background. The violet-grey is used to indicate: the snow covering the dark violet-grey mountain on the right; the rock forming the more distant peak on the left; and a lighter tint of this colour forms the clouds in the upper left corner. A log structure to centre left, a small red building centre right, five trees in centre, numerous stumps. The grass and trees are green. Along the bottom of the picture is inscribed: Part of original Banff Siding 29? 1888 Cascade Mtn 8K - D Clark, Agent CPR.Siding 29 was established in 1883 at the base of Cascade Mtn. The CPR moved the station to its current Banff location in 1889 and by 1897 all the residents of the old town had moved to the new town of Banff.
