The base is a retroflexive, inverted dome, providing at its perimeter the foot, the walls bulge slightly to a mid-point, the greatest diameter of the basket, then withdraw to a firmly wound coil which is the neck, and the flange for the lid which fits flushly into the neck. The lid is similarly edged by a firmly wound coil then is surrounded by a dome. The basket is made of simple crossed laths forming the warp, for the most part the base is a simple lattice weave, though it has three twilled bands of black (one-sided) cane for decorative effect. The bottom and top of the walls are simple lattice weave natural, brown, and rust, the middle is a fine-textured twill-woven pattern that looks like elongated herringbone. The top of the lid is similarly made up of simple lattice with twill bands. Both the rim of the basket and lid are decorated with overshot dark brown designs. Broken-off loop on lid rim and loop stem visible on basket.
