A stone wall is to the right of the temple and behind it is a tree trunk painted in brown with two branches in yellow and green. Framing the image to the right is the beginning of a curved gable that enters into the frame but is discontinued.

The line quality of the drawing in the foreground is much heavier and more detailed than the background. Shading in the piece is done mostly with cross-hatching.
