- A long straight knife with fluted wooden handle and scabbard ornately trimmed with brass. (a) dagger, short, narrow, pointed, double edged steel blade with small, dark, fluted wooden handle. Blade guard, cast of brass with raised curlicue design, turns upward at sides, handle tip of cast brass with similar design and small lug with hole through at one side Note: blade guard loose; wooden handle cracked along length; blade pitted. (b) scabbard, narrow and straight, made of two pieces of wood held together by two rings of heavy cast brass with raised floral motifs, becoming oval medallions on one side with cast relief of dragon like figures. Cast brass bands at mouth and tip repeat dragon floral motif of other two bands and have floral motif cut through exposing pebbly stone inlay in wood. Brass ring near top with small brass loop on one side.

(a) knife, thin, curved, pointed steel blade with handle carved of greenish tortoiseshell ? shaped like a simple pistol grip. Deep single groove incised at each side at top near hilt. Blade joined to handle with roughly formed collar of grey metal. Note: hairline cracks in handle along grain, blade pitted and rusted. (b) scabbard, simple, slightly curved, wood with hoof like ebony tip. Band of tortoiseshell ? at opening carved in shape of flame or flowing leaf sticking out to one side. Round hole drilled through top, five thin lines incised across wood spaced evenly along length of scabbard. Small patches of glossy black material in a few places, and a black colour in the grain of the wood indicate that the wood may have been once enamelled black

- A set of two commemorative pins from Japan plus a chain fob from which to suspend them when worn. (a) pin of the Second Class of the Order of the Sacred Treasure, small round silver pin with white enamel arms radiating from a round blue enamel silver bordered centre with a small silver scallop edged circle in the middle. A chain of red enamel spots encircles the central portion of the pin, two sharp bent prongs and two small rings soldered to the back of the pin, with a separate ring through the top for suspending. (b) pin of the Third Class of the Order of the Rising Sun, small gold pin with a white enameled starburst radiating from a solid round red enamel centre bordered in gold. Hangs from small flower pendant with three green enamel leaves and three enamel purple blossoms, the whole is suspended from a white bow with red borders attached through a stud button. This pin is contained in a square brown leather jewellery case (bb) with hinged lid lined in white velvet and satin. (c) lapel pin fob for suspending the two pins, gold circular lapel button attached to two closely linked chains which are attached to a gold straight pin at the other end. Two small rings at the bottom of each to hold the pins. - Two light weight wood stacking chests with two drawers each. Chests are fastened together by a rectangular metal latch (23 x 8) on each side which slides up to hook onto two metal prongs placed at the bottom of the chest above. Each corner is reinforced by a metal covering. Oval shaped brown metal plates (12.5 cm. long with straight length-wise sides) decorate the bottom front of each chest. Each drawer has a lock placed in the center of a 10.5 cm. brown metal disc with silver metal rim and center. Discs extend over upper top edge of drawers by about 3 cm., two shiny brown metal handles on each drawer. Each of the handles is fastened to inside of drawer by a wing-type (or butterfly) fastener rather than screws.
