Marks: on base, red Japeanese writing) (c) 2.6 x 6.7 - double circle inscribed on top platform which is ringed with small lip, smooth outward bowed base with three small feet curving outward, small circle cut in base. Marks: on base, paper label, “605/2” (d) 2.7 x 6.5 - lathe turned with small lip around top platform, smooth outward bowed base with small foot-ring, bottom hollowed inside foot-ring. (e) 1.6 x 5.7 - small raised ring carved around platform top, base flares out slightly and is scroll-shaped along bottom defining three very small feet. - Japanese blue and white porcelain plate shaped like a shallow bowl, stands on .5 cm. high rim, decoration on topside includes ten 4 cm. circles which contain five birds alternating with a fish scale like design. The five birds are all the same and stylized, head has a distinct comb and is in profile while body is in front view with wings spread open, between the circles are blue and white cloud like scrolls. 10 cm. circle in center is undecorated white. Rim has border of blue cross hatched triangles. At least twenty holes in glaze are evident on topside. Underside is decorated with a delicate curvy blue line, mark on bottom resemble a monogram, framed in a double blue line.

- Handle only, elaborately formed in the shape of a Chinese dragon, since separated from its incense burner. Depressions under its chest and tail show where it would have been attached to the burner. The patina is quite brown, and the scales of the dragon are clear cusps on most of its surface. The casting was made in six parts and then joined. The menacing dragon has mouth open, horns raised, claws extended. It would have been a difficult handle to use affixed to the burner, and has an enhanced decorative value.

- Description
- A needlepoint sampler, in many colours, done in cross-stitch on a loosely woven ecru linen. The sampler has a narrow double-stitched border with a floral band at the top followed by rows of letters of the alphabet separated by horizontal bars. Most of the letters are worked twice together through the alphabet repeating from A to D at the end, followed by another floral band as at the top, and then “Susanah Lehman November the 3 1796.” The sampler was originally framed in a simple brown wood frame with parallel line texture (wood grain?) and has a framer’s sticker on the back “The Royal Art Gallery” (Calgary, Alberta).
