Japanese insect vendor, fully furnished. Platform, 23.0x9.8x5.0, is black painted wood covered with black grit paper. Checkerboard patterned paper covers frame shop, 21.5x22.0x7.0. Hinged panels on both sides, 15.3x3.3. Front facing panels have wooden lattice work, same paper pattern. Shopkeeper, teenage girl, is sitting in centre of shop. She has a patterned kimono with red in pattern and lining, wearing blue thongs, hair piled high with a red tie dyed scarf, china face. Open mouth show white teeth, china hands. Many and varied insect boxes displayed, very finely crafted, all secured to framework. The black boxes are for displaying fireflies. The shopkeeper is also secured to the display. He is sitting on the floor, yoga position, open hands, extended. Items for sale: 1 big woven chicken coop, 2 medium sized chicken coops, 1 big woven basket with one end open for chaffiing, 1 medium sized flat sparrow coop, 3 smaller flat sparrow coops, several carrying baskets, sieves of various gratings, various wooden dustpans, 1 fish basket, 3 hand brushes, scrub brushes. The shopkeeper was probably a basket weaver as well.

Japanese food storage cupboard. Rectangular shaped cupboard, solid wood back and top with wood grid sides and front. Wooden grid sides are immovable, 7.1h x 4.5w, and has wooden frame, 0.5w. Grid covers green wire mesh glued onto inside of cupboard, the two wooden framed grids covering green wire mesh in front are both movable side to side, the left one, 8.6h x 6.3w, fits into the groove, carved width of the insides of both the top and bottom of the cupboard, nearest the front. The right one, 8.6h x 6.3w, fits into the groove, carved the width of the insides of both the top and bottom of the cupboard, located behind the aforementioned one two drawers are located side by side at the bottom of the cupboard, 6.81 x 1.7h x 5.8w. Both pull out by way of round white knobs. Cupboard set onto four legs of wooden scroll design in front, plain at back. Located on the inside of the cupboard are two shelves, 2.91 x 7.0w. The left handed one is set lower then the other, 3.2 from bottom, flush to the left side grid. The right handed one is set higher then the other, 6.0 from the bottom, flush to the right side grid.

Description
Traditional Japanese house model. 2 storey wood construction which disassembles into 10 pieces. The rectangular base is raised slightly above ground level by a narrower under base. 12 wood and paper, and 2 wooden lattice work sliding panels open up to verandas on each level, front and back. 1 hinged door of wood and paper in front, roof is peaked with exterior ride pole and no decoration. The 2 sides of the roof are held together by a piece of tape which acts like a hinge. Inside a raised platform spans the width and 3/4 the length of the main floor. The second floor is made from a single thin slab of wood. "Made in Japan" is stamped onto tape on roof, both bases, the second floor, the front and back walls and the free standing partition. Upper middle class house for family of 4 or 8. Upstairs, sleeping quarters, 6 or 4 separate rooms divided by sliding, removable) doors, 2 rooms used for sleeping , 2 or 3 per room. 1 room reserved for special living room ? with "Tokono-Ma". where hanging scroll hangs, and where flower arrangement is weekly changed. 1 room used for Buddhism altar. 6 feet high, 2 1/2 feet wide. with ancestors after death names, etc. Altar flower is changed every week. Steamed rise is presented every morning. Any special gift, especially food, cakes, cookis, etc. is placed in front of this altar before anyone unwraps it. Those 2 rods are used for overnight company with the best hudon and so forth. All the rooms could be turned into one large banquet room. Downstairs, 2 rooms , on the floor, and kitchen on the dirt floor? 1 room , living room and eating room, during the day, sleeping room for a couple during the night? 1 room, further from the main road and the better room during the day, sleeping room during the night?

Items for sale: all kinds of lanterns, lighted with a candle inside. 2 largest, longest, for shinto shrine, note a metal eye on the bottom for the purpose of securing the lantern with a rope and a rock on the ground. 2 medium long lanterns for fox god, of shintoism. 4 small size long lanterns with a removable handle stand, which forms tripod with 2 other metal legs on the bottom of this kind of lantern. 2 for 2 different suhi-shops, 1 for festival of harvest, 1 for Yoshiwara brothel, this kind can be free standing as well as being carried around as well as being hooked at the building, etc. 2 large oblong lanterns with, great Japan Banzai, patriotic writing. 1 big red lantern dedicated both shintois buddhism , simultaneously . Items for sale (continued) 1 medium sized lantern, similar to previous ones, dedicated to both shintois buddhism, simultaneously. 4 medium sized round red and white striped. 4 small black and white oblongs with 4 different house emblems with a removable handle which forms the third of a tripod together with 2 other metal legs on the bottom of this type of lantern. 5 pear shaped with a different flower on each lantern with an elaborate rose coloured tassel. 2 small round ones with a toy dog add a rattler, other with cherry blossom petals. 5 extra small round red, 3 extra small round with a lid on top with different kinds of house emblems, with a klong handle, with 2 metal hooks which are looking away from each other on the bottom. 4 small red round with cherry blossom petals with a stickhandle, for children to carry around during the summer festival .

Japanese musical instruments shop, fully furnished. Wooden base, 36.2 x 18.7 x 5.3, woven floor mat. Wooden shop walls, 35.2x24.0x17.3, open roof. Shopkeeper, teenage girl, wearing patterned, multi-coloured kimono. She is on her knees on the floor holding a shamisen. Delicate features, dimples and teeth showing. Many and varied musical instruments displayed, secured to frame. On the cloth shop curtain: musical instruments, house of music and rhythm, musical instruments.
