Description
A coal miner's safety lamp, heavy brass base which acts as fuel chamber is surmounted by a glassed in cylinder protected by strong vertical shafts of wire. A brass ring atop them which supports, by steel shafts, a top plate with a large hook on it for hanging the lamp. Between the upper ring and the top plate is a wire mesh cylinder which allows oxygen to feed the flame but which diffuses the heat rising from the flame. The lamp itself consists of a wick which draws fuel from the reservoir, and beside it is a small wire hook which can be operated from the bottom of the lamp base to extinguish the flame.
