Description
A calumet with grey stone T-shape bowl and long wooden stem; (a) cylindrical smoke bowl sits atop long narrow base which tapers toward front where it is cut off at angle, and is carved into cube shape at end where stem joins; bowl is incised with scratched design of diamond shapes on sides, around smoke bowl, and on each face of the cube; pipe stem (b) is shaped from stick which thickens and is flattened at bottom near bowl joint; mouthpiece is formed by whittling stem flat at one end, with carved round dowel joint at other to join to bowl; a series of charred lines have been burnt into top and sides of stem; end of stem near mouthpiece shows evidence of having been painted yellow ochre at one time.
