Description
Polaroid Automatic 103 Land Camera in a grey plastic case and a black fabric carry strap attached to loops built in to the top of the camera. The cover folds down to expose the camera lens - this front cover can be detached and has a spring-controlled wire frame that holds the instruction manual in place. The camera itself folds out from the plastic casing - the viewfinder and focus calculator folds up on a hinge and clicks into place with a magnet; the lens extends out on fabric bellows and is released by pulling the lever numbered “1” up - the bellows can be retracted by pressing down on the crossbar; the back panel can open by sliding a small lever on the bottom.

Description
A beige metal and plastic Polaroid Land Camera 800 with a pop-open front plate that exposes the lens - which extends out onto the plate with attached bellows - and has a small metal stand that allows the camera to sit on a surface as well as a dial that controls the zoom. A leather handle is attached along one side, near a small red plastic switch [possibly the trigger], and along the top is the viewfinder, range finder, and a slot into which attachments like a flash could be fit. The back panel pops open with a metal latch to insert the film.Hunter used the camera while working at the Sulphur Mountain Gondola when it first opened in 1959 - he was posted at the top and took photos of people as they came off. At the time there were no buildings at the top so wind and dust frequently scratched the pictures before he had a chance to seal them - despite this, Hunter made $66 on the first day [pictures were black and white and cost $1 each].
