The film was directed by Robert Altman and co-written by Robert Altman and Alan Rudolph. Parts of the filming took place in locations throughout Alberta, including Okotoks, Calgary, and Drumheller. The film largely takes place aboard a moving train, and the use of Canadian Pacific Railway for this purpose is likely how Nicholas Morant (Canadian Pacific's Special Photographer from 1930 - 1981) was able to take the photographs in this file.
