After the hills is a line of forest and in the foreground are two small ponds separated by a thin strip of land with tall grass and the ponds are surrounded by a lone, green pine tree on the left and three golden-leaved poplar trees on the right. The artist signature is painted in the bottom rhc in red, “DUNCAN /81”. Au verso, on the top edge of the canvas in black pen is written, “EARLY AUTUMN, MORLEY, ALBERTA”. Standing to the right of the stream in the orange grass area are three horses, two are dark brown and the other is a lighter brown. Just behind the orange trees are many green trees off in the distance and behind them are mountains covered in snow and blue in colour. The sky is a cool even blue.
