- A large, oblong, wooden tray carved from a single piece of wood, fine grain elm, with carved picture of gnarled, Japanese tree at centre. Tray carved with slight, thick, lip rounding into bottom of tray. Large tree covers bottom of tray with spikes of grass at its base, and plum blossoms on its branches. Narrow zigzagged band frames picture with carved Japanese "Two Friends in Winter" signature in small chop square at bottom left corner below a faint inscription of Japanese characters. Charred areas in four spots on tray forming a roughly 18.0 x 20.0 cm rectangle. (From Brazier?). Dotted stains from soya sauce.
