- The HANDY VOLUME ATLAS OF THE WORLD has long enjoyed a large measure of popularity as the most complete and accurate Compendium of Geographical Information of its size published. The evidence of this continued popularity lies in the fact that, since it was first produced under the Editorship of the eminent Geographer, the late Dr. E. G. Ravenstein, no fewer than fourteen large editions have been issued. In this, the FIFTEENTH EDITION, the present Editor has endeavoured to deserve a continuance of that popularity, by making the new issue of the Atlas a complete SURVEY of POST-WAR GEOGRAPHY, exhibiting, in their natural order, the territorial changes and political changes throughout the World effected by the Peace Treaties and Agreements following the Great War. -- Excerpt from Preface, p. v

- "Ben [Gadd]’s memoir tells the story of how a skinny, myopic and cowardly kid grew into the mountaineer who wrote [Handbook of the Canadian Rockies and Raven's End] and received the Banff Centre’s coveted Summit of Excellence award in 2014. There’s a lot more to this memoir than just biography. Interleaved with the personal history are 36 readings from Ben’s favorite written work. These essays, magazine articles, stories and book excerpts will have you chuckling in some places, touched in others. All this plus hundreds of color illustrations." - Quoted from Ben Gadd's website, May 4th, 2022

- Annie (Creagh) Wiseman (1891-1972) was born in Deptford, England, where she married Stanley Wilfred Ernest Wiseman. The couple had one daughter, Ethel, before moving to Winnipeg. The family returned to England following the outbreak of World War I, in which Stanley served as a Private in the 61st Battalion, Canadian Infantry. Annie and Ethel later returned to Winnipeg, where Stanley joined them following a serious injury which he sustained in active duty. In Winnipeg, Annie and Stanley had two more children: a daughter (Hilda) and a son (Stanley). Stanley Sr. worked as a foreman for Canadian Pacific Railway, which enabled Annie to travel throughout the Canadian Rockies and other regions by train for free or a reduced price. Annie collected postcards from her travels, which included numerous visits to Banff National Park. Annie, Stanley Sr. and their two youngest children permanently settled in Victoria, B.C. in 1935.
