Four of the tallest trees fill the righthand side of the picture. A small figure (clothed in black) sits sketching near the lower left corner. (The paint in this corner is in bad condition.) The large background mountain is coloured medium blue at the top, with lower slopes of green. Areas of loose rock are sketched in near the centre of the mountain; These small areas are brown-grey with touches of orange indicating (larch?) trees. The sky is light blue.

In the background is a large pyramidal mountain whose summit (coloured white, grey, light brown and outlined in black) mirrors to a certain extent, the form of the tepee. The lower slopes of the mountain form a range which stretches across the background. These slopes are coloured ochre, tan and violet-grey, with touches of white. The base of the mountain range is dark green. Three small clouds hover in the blue sky just above the mountain.
